Professor of chemistry and geology at the Adelphi College, Brooklyn, since 1880. Elected trustee of the Brooklyn Institute, May, 1887; chairman of the committee on scientific work, October, 1887; proposed plan for the reorganization of the institute and its incorporation as the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences in 1889, and has been director of the institute since May, 1890. Member of executive committee Brooklyn Civil Service Reform Association, 1890-8; member of the Brooklyn Board of Education, 1892-9. Elected Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, 1896, and a trustee of Antioch College, 1898.
