Was converted to the Roman Catholic faith in 1862; joined the Paulists in 1868, and was ordained to the priesthood in March, 1871. Became a teacher of science in the Paulists' Seminary and was appointed chief professor of mathematics to the Catholic Uni- versity in October, 1895. Is a brother of Arthur Phil- lips Searle, professor of astronomy at Harvard Uni- versity. Author of several works and is a frequent contributor to scientific journals.
