Nathaniell Bishop of Easthampton in the County of Suffolk upon the Island of Nassaw in the Colony of New York in America, of the one part and Jona Rodgers of the Town of Southampton in the same County, Yeoman, of the other part, Witnesseth, that the said Nathaniell Bishop for and in consid- eration of the sum of Thirty-seven pounds to him in hand paid, hath granted and sold unto the said Jona Rodgers and his heirs forever, one quarter part of a whole share through- out Mantake that is to say, the one half of that half share which his Father Nathaniell Bishop gave him, To have and to hold the same forever, and doth warrant to defend.

Between Daniell and Nathaniell Bishop of Easthampton in the County of Suffolk upon the Island of Nassaw in the Colo- ny of New York in America, of the one part, and Anthony Ludlam of South Hampton in the County aforesaid, Yeoman, of the other part, Witnesseth, that the said Daniell and Na- thaniell Bishop for and in consideration of the sum of five pounds sixteen shillings to them in hand paid, have sold unto the said Ludlam, and to his heirs forever, Eight acres & half of land be the same more or less lying and being in the bounds of Easthampton upon the North side near Alwive brook but- ting upon the sea toward Northwest as it was laid out by the Town Measurers to the said Daniell and Nathaniell Bishop's thirteen acre allotment-To have and to hold the same for- ever, and doth warrant to defend.

Book A, page 24 .- (Abstract.)-Know all men by these presents that I John Davis of Easthampton, on Long Island, in the province of New York, Weaver, have for myself and my heirs forever quitted claim, unto John Chatfield of Co- hansie in the province of Novasesaria, planter, and his heirs and assigns, of that half side or line of fence or fencing be- tween the said John Davis and Enoch Fithian, Wherein the said John Chatfield did covenant and oblige himself in a deed of sale unto Thomas Terrill, which he the said Terrill assigned unto the abovesaid John Davis, and his heirs, and also I the

EASTHAMPTON April 1st 1707.
Then at our legal Town meeting it was by major vote or- dered and appointed that the Trustees as they think meet, shall hire a man and improve him for the tending the fatting pasture and cattle at Meantaket for the year ensuing, and did by said vote express themselves to sit down satisfied with paying the charge that shall arise thereby, this a true record of the act and meaning of said vote.

Book A, page 16 .- Then at a legal Town meeting it was granted by a major vote to Arther Chandler and his now wife that they might build them a house upon some common land near Robert Kedees to be staked out to them as the Trustees shall think meet not exceeding half an acre of land, they to enjoy the same so long as they, or either of them shall inhabit or dwell on the same but whensoever they shall both leave the same either by death or otherwise it is to revert to the Town again ; a true record of the act and meaning of that vote.

It was also the day abovesaid agreed to and ordered by a major vote that all the common land belonging to said Town- ship to say from the bound line joining to Southampton West- ward, to Napeage Eastward, should be surveyed and lotted out to each person in equal proportion according as each or every person is interested in said Towns Common the which to be performed with as much speed as conveniently may be (so that it do not intrench upon privilege of an order dated April the last : May the first for the improvement of common

pasture) always provided there be necessary commons and convenient ways reserved and Town common as ordered, May the 16th 1700.
And for the better accomplishing the above premises it was then ordered by a major vote that five or six men be appoint- ed to survey the above said Common land and consider in what form and manner to perform or lot out the same that may be most equal both for particular and Common good, to which purpose was then appointed by major vote Capt John Wheeler, Mr John Mulford, Jeremiah Conkling, Thomas Mul- ford, Benjamin Osborne and Thomas Chatfield to have the whole management of the said affair and to return list or lists draft or drafts of the said common land to the said Town.

Book G, page 4 .- Whereas there is a division of land or- dered to be laid out in Easthampton as per the Town vote May the 7th 1707 these presents witnesseth that I Jeremiah Conkling of said Easthampton in the County of Suffolk of the Colony of New York, Yeoman, for and in consideration of the good affection I do bear unto my sons David Conkling and Luis Conkling both of said Easthampton, do fully firmly and absolutely give and grant unto the said David Conkling and Luis Conkling to draw lots, claim and receive in their and each of their own names out of said division of land the full quantity of five acres and a half of land and sixteen poles in said division to each and either of them and to each and either their heirs and assigns forever.
Also all the right title and interest in and unto a certain parcel of low meadow within or joining to the Calf Pasture in said Easthampton which did of right and doth by Town grant belong unto the lot whereon I do now dwell; by virtue of a Town grant made thereof unto Mr Lion Gardiner, deceased, the which the said Jeremiah Conkling do give and bequeath unto the said David and Lewis Conkling after the Reverent Mr Nathaniell Huntting shall cease performing the ministry

Book 4, page 72 .- A journal account of the Trustees sever- al meeting, acts and orders for the year 1707. April the Sth 1707 at a legal meeting of the Trustees it was agreed with Mr John Mulford to let the sheep flock to fold as in time last past for present money or equivalent and did adjourn their meeting to 15th instant at 3 of clock in afternoon.

Articles of agreement made and agreed to between Robert Kede of the Town of Easthampton of the one part and the Trustees of the Freeholders and Commonalty of the Town of Easthampton of the other part Witnesseth that the said Rob- ert Kede doth promise and engage to perform the part of a shepherd faithfully to the general sheep flock belonging to said Town by tending them carefully day by day as well Sab- baths as other days of the week, and suitably driving where let to fold and seasonably there to receive them again; said

tendance to be by said Kedee or his order performed, either about this Town or at Mantauk, both when the flock is entire and when the rams separate into another flock ; which mov- ing and separation to be performed as shall be directed by said Trustees, and also said Kedee is to provide suitable yard- ing for said flock when at Mantak and perform all other inci- dental charge relating to said flock at his own cost, and to continue his said care and attendance on this agreement from the 31st day of March last until the said Trustees shall see meet that said sheep be taken up to wintering, provided said time of taking up do not surpass the 25th of December next ensuing the date hereof; for and in consideration of said faithful performance the said Trustees do promise and engage that there shall be paid to the said Kedee or his orders, the full sum of three pence and three farthings, per head of all sheep so taken up as abovesaid as well for rams and lambs as for other sheep as also for all other taken up at other times by equal computation ; which payment to be made out of the money for folding or by a rate on what sheep so taken up. The Kedee doth farther promise to use his faithful endeavor during term of tending said flock to prevent said sheep from doing damage in any mans field, fields or enclosure.
Book 4, page 93 .--- According to adjournment they did meet and did adjourn to the 17th instant. Adjourned to the 22d this instant and did then order Mr John Mulford to de- sire Capt Mulford to pay our quit rents for the year past to the Receiver General at New York, and to repay the same to him out of the sheep dung money.
They did then order that the heads of the orders concern- ing pounding swine and sheep off of the Common enclosures and Mantake should be published next public time and ad- journed to the 29th instant.
Was then ordered that Thomas Mulford and Jer Miller do warn the French man at the Doctor's to depart this Town,

Richerd Shaw and Matthias Burnat to warn the young woman at Nath'll Domenies in like manner ; Mr John Mulford and Tho Chatfield to take care about the woman that came from Ston Town and Rodger Davis; also then ordered that John Field should have the rate delivered him for to gather pay for his latter herding cattle in the year 1706, he paying all debts due thereon and be accountable to the Trustees in the full sum of Twenty shillings, and did adjourn to the first of May next ensuing, and did then agree with Stephen Leeke of this Town to tend the fatting cattle when put into the general fatting pasture at Meantaket and to receive none into said pasture, but as the Trustees shall direct, and to repair and maintain said pasture fence so both on land and in water suf- ficient to prevent trespassing into said field excepting cattle unruly, and to clear said field of all stock by the 14th or 15th day of this instant May and also to keep said cattle in the Indian field when ordered by the Trustees and the run- ning stock when turned into said field until said Trustees shall cause them to be brought off in Winter, and for said Stephen Leeke his reward, said Trustees did then agree that the own- ers of said pasture and stock should pay to the said Stephen Leeke or his order the sum of one shilling and six pence per day from the time of their being put into said fatting pasture until moved into said Indian field, and from that day to said taking up at Winter, to pay him or order the sum of one shil- ling and ten pence half penny for each day and the liberty to keep 5 or 6 swine and to plant one or two acres in the Indian field with said Indians leave.
They did also then agree that 30 or 40 men be procured to mend the general line on the eighth instant to that end did di- vide the Town amongst them to give people notice thereof, and did adjourn to the 6th day instant 3 of the clock in after- noon.
Said meeting adjourned to the 13th instant then ordered

that six men be sent to clear our Commons of Southampton cattle and ordered that notice be given to all persons having horses trespassing contrary to our Town order on our Com- mon, that they should speedily take them off or expect them prosecuted according to said order and did adjourn to the 20th instant.
On the 20th said meeting adjourned to the 27th instant, then ordered the flock should not be let to fold but within the compass of what has been stated for common pasture, or where it is in all points as convenient and did adjourn said meeting to the 1st of June 1707.
Then ordered that the fatting cattle be put into their pas- ture at the rate of 12 to a share, 3 calves in lieu of beast, that no person enlarge his number next year by putting in short this year, and that all charges relating to said fatting cattle or pasture, be levied on and paid by each man as he has right in said pasture, and that Mr. John Mulford and Tho Chatfield do tend the bars to receive said fatting cattle, and count them in, and did adjourn to the 23d of this instant 4 of the clock in the afternoon.
Page 74 .- Then at our legal meeting of the Trustees it that John Conkling and Ichabod Leeke do take the charge for the repair of that highway near their houses; and Benj. Os and do take care of that highway by Jon Hop- pins and did adjourn their meeting to the 29th day of July at 5 of the clock in the afternoon.
AUGUST the 28th 1707.
At a legal meeting of the Trustees of the Freeholders and Commonalty of the Town of East Hampton it was then or- dered that the rams shall be drawn off on Tuesday following,

and did adjourn their meeting to the second day of Septem- ber 4 of the clock in the afternoon.
According to adjournment said Trustees did meet said 2d day and adjourned said meeting to the 9th day instant, 4 of the clock in afternoon.
Then ordered that Ichabod Leeke do agree with John Field to tend the rams at Mantake at two bits a day or two bits and half bit rather than fail, and did adjourn said meeting to the 23d day instant 4 of the clock in afternoon.
At a legal meeting of the Trustees of the Freeholders and Commonalty of the Town of East Hampton October the 13th 1707, then ordered that twelve men be sent to Mantaket to put what neat cattle they can find into the Indian field, and did order that notice be given in public for the repair the general line on 2d day next and did adjourn their meeting to the 27th day 4 of clock in afternoon.

and did adjourn to the 10th of November 4 of clock in after- noon and ordered Thomas Mulford to mend the underpinning of the meeting house and did adjourn said meeting to the 24th day of November 4 of clock in afternoon.
Then ordered the sheep flock be brought from Mantak the beginning of the next week and did adjourn said meeting to the Sth day of December 4 of the clock in afternoon.
At our legal meeting by warrant December the 15th 1707 then ordered that the rate for the ministry be made and that notice be given that several persons do bring their Town charge and did adjourn said meeting to the 29th day instant 4 of the clock in afternoon-they then agreed with John Conkling to get a list of the running stock and allow him ten shillings and did adjourn their meeting to the 13th of January 4 of the clock in afternoon.
Book 4, page 75 .- Then ordered that a rate be levied on the Town according to assessment for defraying the public charges of the same for the year past. Also that a rate be levied according to rights in the fatting pasture to pay the charge of the fatting cattle and use to the Sachems, and that one third part of the charge from the 15th of October to the 15th of November be levied on the fatting cattle.
And also that a rate be levied to answer the charge of the running stock for the year past and did adjourn their meet- ing to the 27th day instant January 4 of clock in afternoon.
An account of the Leekes herding at the fatting cattle is for the 20th day of June to the 15th day of August 118 days at 1s 6d per day makes S£ 17s Od to the 15th day of Novem- ber is 31 days at 1s 103d per day is 2£ 18s 93d one third of which is 6-43, which two sums added make 9-16-4} which is the full for herding the fatting cattle except John Field 7 days at 1-102 per day is 172 bits one third part of which is 0-04-4} (from the other leaf) 3-03-6=12-19 4} (total) 13-3-9.

The charge put in the rate for the running stock for the year 1707 is 3 parts of herding from October the 15th to No .. vember the 15th 31 days at 1s-102d per day 1-18-9 to the which add for 3 parts of John Fields weeks 0-08-9 to the which add 1-102 per day for 28 days till brought home 2-12-6, to that add eight men to put said running stock in 0-18-0 more to Jon Conk for getting the number of stock 0-10-0 more for making said rate 0-4-0

Page 76 .- According to adjournment said Trustees did meet January the 27th and did adjourn to the 3d day of Feb- ruary 1707-S there was deputed Mr John Mulford to be Col- lector of the aforesaid three rates Viz: Town rate, fatting pasture rate, and running stock rate, and did adjourn to the 24th day of said February 5 of the clock in afternoon, and did then adjourn to the 9th day of March 1707-S at 5 of the clock in afternoon.
March the 15th voted and agreed that Sam'll Dayton Jur and Chandler should keep the Town sheep in two flocks, pro- vided they would agree thereto, and not to exceed 32 pounds for their reward, and did adjourn their meeting to the 22d day of March at 5 of clock in afternoon, said Chandler re- fused, said Trustees did then agree with said Dayton to keep one flock at 16 pounds appointed Mr Jon Mulford and Tho Chatfield to discourse Simon Hilliar to tend one flock, and did adjourn to the 26th instant at 5 of the clock in the afternoon then adjourned to April the 2 at 5 o'clock in afternoon.
