It was also agreed on by major vote of the proprietors on the day abovesaid that Alewife Brook Neck shall be fired and burnt this Spring as soon as may be with conveniency, and also that the whole management of the said Neck shall be and is left to the Trustees.


Easthampton April the 3d 1716.


Book 4, page 9 .- Then at a Town meeting it was agreed on by major vote of the proprietors that the sheep flock shall be kept at Meantauk until the tenth day of May next and that ten sheep shall be equivalent to one neat beast and to be kept to the Westward of the Fort Pond.


Agreed on by major vote of the proprietors that Capt. Mat- thias Burnet shall take up so much land joining to his land at Ammaganset pond on the condition that he the said Burnet do lay down so much land to the Town in Aylewife Brook Neck as he shall take up at the said Amagansett pond.


On the request of Thomas Barnes it was agreed on the day abovesaid that Thomas Barnes shall take up eight acres of land in Indian Well Plain, on the condition that he the said Thomas Barnes do lay down so much land in Acabonick Neck, at a place called the Flaggy Hole, to the use of the proprietors.

Book 4, page 156 .- A general account of the Trustees' or- ders in the year 1716.


The Trustees being legally convened April the 10th, 1716, did order by major vote to exchange some land with Nathan- iel Baker, and did adjourn their meeting to the 17th of April. According to adjournment the said Trustees met on said day and did then agree by major vote with Cornelius Miller to re- move the fence from the Fort pond and carry it to the fatting field for fourteen shillings per hundred for so much as is want- ing beyond the Oyster pond ; and eight shillings per hundred for all on this side of the Oyster pond, and did then agree

with said Miller to set up said fence and keep the whole line of fence in good repair all Summer for nine shillings, and also to keep and tend the fatting pasture for one shilling per day till the cattle be bronght home in the fall, he to maintain all water fence and to observe all orders for the removing of all cattle out of one field into the other, and did adjourn their meeting to the 24th of this instant.


According to adjournment the Trustees met and did order that Thomas Chatfield, Capt. Burnet and John Hedges should order that stone horses shall run on Montauk this year, and did adjourn their meeting to the first day of May.


According to adjournment the Trustees met and did order that the fence at Aylewife Brook shall be repaired and kept up this year as it was last year and that notice be given that all persons concerned therein do go to mend said fence on the eighth day of this instant May, and also that two catile shall go or feed on one acre commonage in the bounds here at home, and did adjourn their meeting to the eighth day of this instant May.

Between Richard Shaw of the Town of Easthampton, &c., yeoman, of the one part, and Thomas Edwards of the same place, yeoman, of the other part, witnesseth, that the said Richard Shaw for and in consideration of a certain piece of land which my father Richard Shaw had of Thomas Edwards in the Eastern Plain, hath granted and sold unto the said Thomas Edwards and to his heirs forever, a certain parcel of land laid out in my father Richard Shaw's lifetime and laid out with some land of the said Thomas Edwards in Amagan- set woods, containing eleven acres be the same more or less, bounded Westward by the land of Samuel Dayton, to the Northward by common land, Eastward by land laid out to Daniel Jones, Southward by a highway, To have and to hold the same forever, and doth warrant to defend.

Book A, page 27 .- A further record of land laid out to Capt. Mathias Burnet at Amaganset pond joining to that on the other leaf, viz : two acres more or less purchased of the Town and eleven acres and a half more or less which he ex- changed with the Town for land in Aylewife Brook Neck as it was laid out by Capt. John Wheler and Benjamin Osborn, the whole on each side or leaf, bounded as followeth, viz : by the land of Cornelius Conkling and the pond to the South- ward and by the land of David Conkling and Nathaniel Baker to the Westward, and so from the Northeast corner of said Baker's close, across the swamp to a black oak tree, and so Eastwardly to a marked tree on the side of a hill ranging with William Schellenx Jr. land or line, and so on a line down to the fresh pond to a marked tree.

Book A, page 69 .- Then at a legal meeting of the Trustees of this Town upon the request of Thomas Mulford of said Town it was agreed on by major vote that the said Mulford should take up five acres of land near Acabonick landing place joining to his land formerly laid out to him, for and in consideration of the same the said Thomas Mulford doth lay down to the Town's use for ever five acres of land on the West side of the Three Mile Harbor, it being the upper end or Norwesterly end of a parcel of land that was formerly laid out by the Town to the allotment of Jeremiah Conkling, the other part of said parcel of land joining to the Harbor is now in the possession of Cornelius Conkling. The abovesaid five acres of land was laid and staked out to the said Thomas Mulford according to the exchange as above written by Ben- jamin Osborne, he being one of the persons appointed to lay out said land.

Book A, page 14 .- Received of Mr. Sam'l Mulford former- ly a bond which was specified in an agreement for said Mul- ford to deliver up to me which was given by me and Doctor Bridges, deceased, which bond I acknowledge to have re- ceived back and do by these presents acknowledge the same in full of all demands, as witness my hand in New-York this 30th day of May Annoq 1716.

Memorandum-This bond was concerning the land of Meantauk and given by us to the Indian proprietors which was mentioned in an agreement between us.

Then at a legal meeting of the Trustees of this Town it was agreed on by major vote of said Trustees that all horse kind that shall be found grazing or feeding in the Indian field at Meantauk during the time that the Indian corn is on the ground this year shall be liable to be impounded, the owners of all such horses so impounded paying the sum of one shil- ling and six pence for each horse so impounded.


Further ordered that Thomas Edwards shall give the pounders notice or order to impound as abovesaid.

of the Trustees of Easthampton being legally convened to- gether, that there shall be twelve men sent to Mr. Gardiners' Island to get timber in order to the building of a new meet- ing house, and did adjourn their meeting and did meet on the twenty-second of this instant October, and agree with Colonel Wanton to bring twenty thousand of eighteen inch shingles and twenty thousand Pescataque pine boards and two thous- and of cedar clap-boards in order to the building the said meeting house, and did adjourn their meeting to the 30th day and did meet on said day, and did agree that twelve or fourteen men shall go to Gardiner's Island to get timber for said meeting house.

Book 4, page 70 .- Then at a legal meeting of the Trustees of this Town it was ordered by major vote of said Trustees that all the proprietors of Meantauk, and all other persons that hath hired any right on said land do bring in an exact list to Cornelius Conkling of all their horse kind that they now have or shall have on said land for the time of one whole year from the twenty third day of this instant March and of whom they hired the same, that so a list may be made of the same by the said twenty third day of March on the penalty of paying according to the order in that respect, and also that no person shall take off any neat cattle and put horses in their room for the space of one whole year from the said twenty third of March on the penalty of paying five shillings for each horse so put on, and also that seventy neat cattle shall be the whole number allowed to one whole share on said land or one horse in the room of two cattle for the time of one whole year from the twenty third of this instant March ; and if any neat cattle or horse kind be found on said land over and above the said number as abovesaid, shall be liable to be impounded, the owners paring three shillings for every neat beast and five shillings for each horse, and also that all persons do give an exact account to Samuel Hedges of all neat cattle and horses that they shall put on said land after the said twenty- third day of March, and also of all that they bring off from said land.

To all people to whom these presents shall come, Greeting, Know ye that I, Thomas Talmage, of Easthampton, &c., for and in consideration of the sum of twenty-five pounds to me in hand paid, by Enos Tal- mage of same plece, have granted and sold unto the said Enos Talmage and his heirs forever, three acres and half of land, more or less, as it is now fenced at the north end of the Town of Easthampton, bounded by the land of Samuel Dayton Northeast, and with the land of William Hedges Northwest, and with the highways or common land Southwest and South- east, To have and to hold the same forever, and doth agree to give further deed if required.
