Began business career at New Berlin, O., as a farmer; taught school 5 win- ters; was in partnership 3 years with his broth- er in the mfr. of leather, harness and collars; went to Kansas City, Mo., in 1879 and engaged in the wholesale agricultural implement busi- ness; also in electric lighting and street light- ing; also became associated with Arthur J. Ma- son, civil engr., in various experiments and de- velopments connected with excavating and con- veying machinery, and in 1894 they became as- sociated under the firm name of Hoover & Ma- son as contracting engrs. for designing and building such machinery, and this business, in 1902, they removed to Chicago. They have built much special excavating and conveying machin- ery of the most advanced type, especially ma- chinery for the handling of iron ore from mines to furnaces. Mem.
