Ill., Nov. 1870, Anna Rogers. Returned to Chicago, 1871, and was employed by C.&A. R.R .. until appointed on police force, July 12, 1873: a month later was shot in an encounter with a notorious burglar; promoted to regular patrol- man for bravery the following day; mado desk sergeant, Aug. 1878; advanced to patrol ser- geant, Jan. 1, 1887 to lt ..
