Came to Chi- cago, 1849, and engaged in hide and leather business as senior mem. of Charles F. Grey & Co., and later of Grey, Marshall & Co .; organ- ized the Hide & Leather Nat. Bank, 1872, re- tiring from the tanning business; was pres. of the bank until it amalgamated with the Union Nat. Bank about 1900, when retired, except re- taining oversight of personal affairs. For some years trustee of Village of Evanston and Chi- cago Protestant Orphan Asylum. Republican. Baptist. Club: Union League.
