Started in the lead mfg. business in Detroit, Mich., in the spring of 1876; sold out interests in 1879; re- moved to Chicago and established lead works at the corner of Lake and Clinton Sts .; incor- porated, 1880, under name of Raymond Lead Co., of which he was pres. until 1907 (now a dir.); also dir. RAYMOND, Samuel B .; born at Westfield, Mass., July 1848; ed. Wesleyan Acad., Wilbra- ham, Mass .; came to Chicago, 1864. Began as office boy for G. C. Cook & Co., wholesale gro- cers, 1864; became salesman of the house and later was for years in business for himself as sugar broker and representative of Eastern re- fineries. For over a quarter of a century active and prominent in Republican politics; pres. of his ward club about 10 years and actively iden- tified with every Republican campaign com. in Cook Co. over 20 years; Republican candidate for city treas. in 1889; elected co. treas. in 1898, serving until 1902.
