THOMASSON, Nelson, real estate; born at Louisville, Ky., Oct. 15, 1839; son William Poin- dexter Thomasson and Charlotte Pierce Leon- ard (daughter Rev. David A. Leonard, who was also the grandfather of the late Sec. of State John Hay); ed. private schs. and an acad., Louisville, Ky .; children: Leonard (in real es- tate business, Duluth, Minn.), Nelson, Jr. (asst. corpn. counsel, Chicago), Manienne (Mrs. Ellwood Offutt, of Oakland, Md.). When 18 years of age he left Louisville and became student and clerk in offices of Morris, Thom- asson & Blackburn, and later in office of John G. Rogers, meanwhile attending law school. In 1861 enlisted in the Sturges Rifles, and served in it in the Army of the Potomac; pro- moted to regular army after the campaign in Western Va., becoming mem. of Co.
