Litchfield. In 1772, Jacob had deeded to him, by his father Josiah, 50 acres of land in Chesterfield and in his will, 1783, he gave Jacob all his real estate in Chesterfield. After the death of his wife, 17 May 1818, Jacob5 went to live with his son in Canton, St. Lawrence County, N. Y., where he d. 19 Feb. 1825. Children:

d. 10 Jan. 1873. In early life, Amon was apprenticed to Col. Al- van Rice to learn his trade of blacksmithing. After serving out his time and working for a while for Jason Clapp of Pitts- field, he returned and worked for Mr. Rice and finally opened a shop of his own, which he successfully conducted until failing health compelled him to give up working. Children:

ENSIGN LITCHFIELD FAMILY
27. ENSIGN' LITCHFIELD, son of Elisha6 (Elisha5, James4, Nicholas3, Josiah2, Lawrence1) and Delight (Beals) Litchfield, came to Chesterfield with his parents before 1787. There is no death record of Elisha6 in Chesterfield although he is supposed to have died here in 1787. The 1790 Census states that Widow Delight Litchfield was a resident here with a family of five. She m. (2) John Hayden, Jr. (No. 1).
Ensign Litchfield married (int. 25 Aug. 1799), Molly Hay- den (No. 62). In Oct. 1830 Ensign and Mary, his wife, with seven of their children left Chesterfield in a covered wagon for the wilds of Elilicotville, N. Y. His son Simeon had gone a few months before with his wife and small children. Another son, Elisha, ae. about 21, bought land where they all resided. This became the Litchfield farm in Ellicotville. The father, Ensign Litchfield, labored on the farm and died 17 Oct. 1840; his wife, Mary, died May 1858. Children:

29. Marvilla, b. 16 Oct. 1802; m. 23 Dec. 1820, Amasa Riggs, Jr., of Westfield; res. Blandford. Amasa Riggs, Jr., d. in Blandford, 17 Feb. 1843. She m. (2) Albert Noble of Russell. In 1854 they were residents of Salt Lake Valley, Utah.
