He entered Yale in 1805, but transferred to Williams Col- lege the following spring, graduating with high honors in Sept. 1809. He served in the Legislature for twelve years and was prominent in town and county affairs until he lost his eyesight in 1834. Early in his life he bought the Bailey Tavern in Ches- terfield and when it burned, in Dec. 1859, a new mansion was built on its site. Children :

He was a resident of Cummington when he married in 1851 and of Chesterfield at time of settlement of his estate. His only child and heir was William T. Bartlett.

BARTLETT, SETH CLARK and his wife, Susan Maria (Hil- ton) Bartlett, (see Hilton Family), were received into the Con- gregational Church, 13 Mar. 1887, and in 1895 were given a let- ter to the Hope Congregational Church in Springfield. They had an adopted son, Fred Eugene Bartlett, whose name was changed from Fred Eugene Rawson on 3 Nov. 1880. He d. 22 June 1890, ae. 15-4-19.

BARTON FAMILY
TIMOTHY BARTON, cooper, son of Joshua Barton, d. 25 Dec. 1791. His land in Chesterfield was sold at auction to Ezekiel Pierce on 17 Feb. 1797 for $111.00. He was "of Amherst" when he m. (int. 23 Aug. 1784), Pearcis Livermore. She was his third wife. He had married (1) Hepsibah Stowe by whom he had seven children and (2) Amy Allen by whom he had three chil- dren. Pearcis (Livermore) Barton m. (2) Zachariah Curtis (No 40). The will of Timothy bequeathed to wife Pearcis and sons Jonathan, Timothy, Benjamin, Alpheus, Joshua and daughters Molly, Sally, and Hepsibah.
Joshua Barton, probably the youngest son of Timothy Bar- ton and 2nd wife, Amy Allen, was "of Worthington" when he m. (int. 27 Jan. 1799), Sally Bond (or Vaugn). They removed to Otsego, N. Y., where three children were born: Joshua Al- len, Leonard M., and Hiram P. They returned to Chesterfield for a short time, then removed to Norwich, where Sarah Mel- vina, the youngest child, was born. Later they removed to Westhampton. The oldest son, Joshua Allen Barton, m. Relief Vinton (No. 17) and resided in Northampton and Stockbridge.
