1. HEZEKIAH5 WEEKS (William4, John3, William2, George1) was a minor over 14 years of age on 21 Feb. 1755, when he chose as guardian, Eliphalet Gay, cordwainer. One of his sureties was Samuel Shuttlesworth, a blacksmith, of Dedham. He ran away from the blacksmith and eventually came to the Westfield Valley and established a claim to 600 acres in Nor- wich, 1755, where he built a cabin, barns and blacksmith shop. He m. Ruth Cole of Worthington. Three of their sons have descendants in Chesterfield :

The homestead in Chesterfield consisted of 52 acres, for- merly called the "Tilden Place". The life story of Henry Weeks, written by members of his family, has been given to Chester- field Museum library; tells of Civil War experiences as an in- fantry soldier and on the hospital ship; of later schooling at Eastman College in Poughkeepsie;a butcher shop in Buffalo; his return to Indian Hollow in 1876. There he bought land, de- flected the Dead Branch to form a millpond, set up a shop to make small paring knives. Later, he acquired a whetstone quarry on the Ames farm and began to make "Old Norwich Scythe Stones". In his shop he also made sap spouts and made repairs on wagons and sleds. Later he had a store; made week- ly trips to Huntington and did errands for customers along the way. A busy and useful life is described in detail.

26. Joel Henry, b. 1 Mar. 1880, d. 1 July 1886; drowned while play- ing along the stream.


27. Wilson Hezekiah, b. 2 Feb. 1882; attended the South Worthing- ton Academy and Eastman College; m. Barbara Lewis; returned home, bought a farm near his father's but, after a few years, re- turned to Poughkeepsie with his wife and son, who both died and are buried there in Rural Cemetery. The son, Elwin Theodore, was b. in Chesterfield, 18 May 1906.

Her dau., Abigal, b. 21 Apr. 1773, was reputed dau. of John Ellett. She d. in Pownal, Vt., 6 Mar. 1840. He d. in Hampton, N. Y., 5 Feb. 1818.

WILLIAM WHITE FAMILY


1. Capt. WILLIAM3 WHITE, son of Benjamin2 and Abigail (Brown) White and grandson of Andrew1 White, was born in Dudley, 15 Mar. 1736/7; lived in Charlton during his youth ; was one of the earliest settlers of Goshen. He bought of Ezra May, for twenty pounds, Lot No. 20 of the first division in Chesterfield and built his house near the east side of that lot. He m. 7 Apr. 1763, Marcy Dresser, b. 18 Sept. 1742, dau. of Richard and Dorothy Dresser. She d. 1 Jan. 1823. He d. 7 Nov. 1821.


Capt. William White (No. 1) was delegate from Chester- field to the convention that formed the constitution of the state. He was "Consciencely of ye Anebaptis Principal and doth fre- quently attend ye Public Worship of God with us on ye Lord's

14. EZEKIEL4 WHITE, son of Samuel3 (Ebenezer2, Capt. Thomas1) and Ann (Pratt) White, b. in Weymouth, 1 Jan. 1722/3, d. in Goshen, 1800; m. in Weymouth, 18 Apr. 1744, Abi- gail5 Blanchard, dau. of Thomas4 (John3, Nathan2, Thomas1) and Sarah (Vinton) Blanchard. At least five of his thirteen children have records in Chesterfield :

He d. in Goshen, 17 Sept. 1831, ae. 70. The youngest of his nine children was Ebenezer, who married, 12 June 1837, Mary M. Tilden of Norwich (No. 6).


19. Josiah, bapt. Feb. 1765, d. in Goshen, 1832. His property was divided mong his brothers and sisters: Mary Peck, Sarah French, Abigail Barber, Olive, wife of Jacob French, Chloe, wife of John Trufant, and Silence Shaw.
