1. SAMUEL UTLEY, son of James4 (James3, Samuel2 1) and Mary (Kingsbury) Utley, was born in Windham, Conn., 8 Nov. 1758.


Samuel4 Utley (brother of James4) and his wife, Hannah Abbott, had a son Samuel born in the same town, 2 Feb. 1759. It has been definitely proven from recorded land deeds that Samuel5, who came to Chesterfield, was the son of James4 and his wife, Mary Kingsbury. He d. 17 Aug. 1828; m. in Ash- ford, Conn., 6 Dec. 1781, Sally Knowlton, b. in Ashford, 23 Nov. 1763, dau. of Col. Thomas and Anna (Keyes) Knowlton. She d. 2 Mar. 1852. They removed to Dalton, Mass., from Ashford, Conn., and bought land in Chesterfield, 12 July 1798. He served in the Rev. from Conn. in 1780.
