hundred and seventy-five, and were called to order at one of the clock in the afternoon by the Town Clerk, who proceeded to read the warrant calling said meeting, and the return thereon of the officer who served the notices.
First Article taken up :
To choose a moderator.
Voted, That the polls be kept open until half-past two o'clock, for the reception of votes for Moderator.
The Town Clerk then declared the polls open for the recep- tion of votes for Moderator, and they were kept open until half past two o'clock, when it was moved -
That the polls be kept open until three o'clock, which was debated at considerable length, when it was -
Voted, That the polls be reopened and kept open five min- utes for the reception of votes for Moderator.
The polls were then reopened and were kept open five minutes, when they were declared closed.
The Town Clerk then proceeded to sort and count the votes given in for Moderator, and the whole number of votes so given in was five hundred and three ; for Moderator, Charles H. Drew had two hundred and seventy-three, was declared elected, and took the chair.
No clergyman being present to officiate as chaplain, the usual prayer was omitted.
Second Article in the warrant taken up :
To choose the usual town officers for the ensuing year. Also to choose six trustees of the new town cemetery, being two for one year, two for two years, two for three years.
Voted, That the meeting now proceed to elect by ballot the following town officers for the ensuing year, and such other times as may be specified ; to wit, -
A Town Clerk, five Selectmen, who shall be Overseers of the Poor and Surveyors of Highways, three Assessors, Treas- urer and Collector, one Water Commissioner for three years, three School Committee for three years, four Trustees of the Public Library for three years, six Trustees of the Cemetery, two for one year, two for two years, two for three years, three Auditors, two. Fence Viewers, and eleven Constables, all to be voted for on one ticket.

Voted, That the polls be kept open until ten minutes past. six of the clock.
The polls were then declared open for the reception of votes for the officers above named, and were kept open until ten minutes past six of the clock in the afternoon, when, after giving due notice thereof, and an opportunity for any voter to deposit his vote who had not voted and desired so to do, they were declared closed.
Voted, That when this meeting adjourns it be to meet in this place on Tuesday (to-morrow), the twenty-third instant, at seven o'clock in the evening.
Voted, That no further business be transacted by the meet- ing to-night except the business in which it is now engaged, and that when the meeting adjourns it be to to-morrow even- ing at seven o'clock.
The Moderator and Town Clerk then proceeded to sort and count the votes given in, and the whole number so given in in was six hundred and ninety-two ; and the following persons having a large plurality, and all but one a majority, were declared elected to the following offices ; to wit, -

Seventh Article taken :
To see what action the town will take upon a communication from the Legislative Committee on Towns to the Selectmen; that a hearing will be had in the blue room of the State House on Friday, March 26, at 10 A.M., on a petition of David Coolidge and others to reunite Brookline to Boston.
The meeting then passed the following resolution ; viz., -
Resolved, That in order to make manifest their attachment to the principles of self-government, a committee of fifteen be appointed by the Moderator to represent the town before the Legislative Committee and oppose the measure of the reunit- ing, so called, of the territory of Brookline to Boston.
Voted, That the Moderator, Mr. Charles H. Drew, be added to said committee as chairman.

Voted, That Thomas Parsons, Charles K. Kirby, R. G. F. Candage, George Brooks, Rev. Warren Goddard, Jr., be a committee to examine the subject of school accommodations in that district, and see if the town stable cannot be turned into school-rooms, and report the cost at the next meeting.
Fifth Article taken up :
To hear and act upon the report of the Water Commissioners.
Voted, That the Water Commissioners be authorized to purchase the remainder of the tract of land in Ward 17, Boston, of which the filtering gallery is a part, at a price not exceeding six thousand dollars.
Voted, to adjourn, to meet on Monday, the fifth day of April next, at seven o'clock in the evening in this place.

Thomas Parsons, Esq., Chairman of the Selectmen, stated to the meeting the invitations of the towns of Lexington and Concord to the town of Brookline, requesting its inhabitants to participate with them in their celebration of the one hun- dredth anniversary of the battle of Lexington and the open- ing of the revolutionary war.
On motion of Thomas Parsons, Esq., it was -
Voted, That the invitation of the town of Lexington to the town of Brookline to participate with them in the celebration of the one hundredth anniversary of the battle of Lexington, to be held on the nineteenth day of April, 1875, is cordially accepted, and that Hon. William Aspinwall, Abijah W. Goddard, Esq., and Timothy Corey, Esq., be appointed delegates to represent the town of Brookline on that occasion.

Adjourned Annual Meeting, April 5, 1875.
Voted, That the invitation of the town of Concord, Mass., cordially inviting the inhabitants of the town of Brookline to be present at that town on the nineteenth of April, 1875, and join with them in celebrating the centennial anniversary of the opening of the revolutionary war, is cordially accepted, and that a committee of five be appointed by the Moderator to make arrangements for those of the inhabitants of the town of Brookline who desire to participate in said celebra- tion.
The Moderator appointed the following-named gentlemen to compose said committee; to wit, William J. Griggs, Samuel Clerk, Samuel A. Robinson, John G. Stearns, David S. Coolidge.
Voted, That the Town Clerk notify the towns of Lexing- ton and Concord of the action of the town of Brookline, and of its acceptance of their invitations.
Third Article taken up :
To hear and act upon the reports of town officers and committees.
The Selectmen presented the following additional report ; to wit, -
BROOKLINE, Mass., April 1, 1875.
The Selectmen would respectfully report that the hearing notified by the County Commissioners for February 26th, on the petition of the Selectmen, to alter the approaches to Washington-street bridge, has been adjourned to April 7, at 10 o'clock. The Selectmen would ask for instructions.
After considerable discussion upon the widening of said bridge, on motion of Thomas H. Bacon, it was -
Voted, That the whole subject of widening the bridge be indefinitely postponed.
On motion of Thomas Parsons, it was -
Voted, To raise and appropriate for the support of high- ways the ensuing year the sum of $25,000.00.

Fifteenth Article taken up :
To see if the town will accept and allow School street as altered by the Selectmen.
The Selectmen presented the following report on the lay- ing out of said way ; to wit, -
The Selectmen of the town of Brookline, after giving legal notice to all persons and interests known to them of their intention to lay out as a town way, and to widen and relocate School street by taking land upon the southerly side belonging to John Gibbs, did, in pursuance of said notice, meet at their office in the Town Hall, on Monday, the eighteenth day of January A.D. 1874, and proceeded to hear all parties and interests present and desiring to be heard in relation thereto; and the owner of the land abutting on said way, and of the fee of the land over which said way is laid out, and said widening and relocating is made in con- sideration of six hundred and fifty-three dollars paid said owner by said town, agrees to waive all claims for land or grade damages; there being no structures, buildings, trees, walls, fences, or hedges standing upon the land taken for said way, widening and relocating the same may be en- tered upon at once by the town for the purpose of constructing the same.
Said way having been previously examined, they proceeded to lay out, widen, and relocate the same as follows; to wit, -

Adjourned Annual Meeting, April 15, 1875.
Commencing at the junction of the southerly line of School street with the northeasterly line of Washington street, and running easterly on said southerly line of School street forty-three 2-100 feet. Thence run- ning south westerly thirty-two 92-100 feet to the said northeasterly side of Washington street, and thence northwesterly on line of said street forty- three 2-100 feet to the place of beginning: containing six hundred and fifty-three feet, more or less.
The location of said way, widening, and relocating is in accordance with a plan and profile of the same as drawn by George Tyler, civil engi- neer, dated February 1, 1875, accepted and allowed by the Selectmen, and filed in the office of the Town Clerk the same day. And said way as so laid out and located and described is hereby reported to the town for acceptance, and when so accepted, allowed, and recorded, is to be known as a public town way.
