Moved by William Aspinwall, Esq., that the town now accepts the Act of the Legislature entitled "An Act to authorize the town of Brookline to take water from Charles river," being Chapter 343 of the Acts of 1872.
Voted, That the vote on the subject of accepting the Act of the Legislature authorizing the town to take water from Charles river under Chapter 343 of the Acts of 1872, be taken by ballot.
The Moderator then announced to the meeting that the vote would be taken by ballot, "yes" and "no," those in favor of accepting the Act to vote " yes," and those opposed to vote " no."
The polls were then opened for the reception of votes on the acceptance of said Act, and were kept open thirty min- utes, during which time the voters present brought in their votes, and after all who were present had voted who desired to vote, and notice had been given by the Moderator that any one who had not voted and desired so to do could have the opportunity, the polls were declared closed.
The Moderator and Town Clerk then proceeded to sort and count the votes given in, and the whole number given in was two hundred and seventy-five, and were as follows ; to wit, -

Mr. Charles D. Head offered the following votes ; to wit, -
Voted, That the town of Brookline hereby declares that it proposes to take seven hundred and fifty thousand (750,000) gallons of water daily from Charles river, in accordance with the provisions of the Act entitled " An Act to authorize the town of Brookline to take water from Charles river," being Chapter 343 of the Acts passed in 1872.
Voted, That there be chosen by ballot at the annual meeting, three inhabitants of the town of Brookline who shall be styled "Water Com- missioners," one of whom shall be chosen to hold office until the annual meeting in 1874, one to hold office until the annual meeting in 1875, and one to hold office until the annual meeting in 1876. At the annual meet- ing in 1874, and at every annual meeting thereafter, one commissioner shall be chosen, to hold office until the annual meeting in the third year after the meeting at which he shall have been chosen. In case of a vacancy by death, resignation, removal from town, or other cause, the vacancy shall be filled at the next town meeting after the occurrence of such vacancy. Said Water Commissioners shall exercise the right's, powers and authorities which are conferred upon the town of Brookline by the Act entitled " An Act to authorize the town of Brookline to take water from Charles river," being Chapter 343 of the Acts passed in 1872, in conformity with the provisions of said Act.
Said Commissioners shall be subject to such ordinances, rules, and regulations in the execution of their trust as the town may from time to time ordain and establish, not inconsistent with the provisions of said Act and the laws of the Commonwealth.
Voted, For the purpose of introducing water into the town of Brook- line from Charles river in conformity with the Act entitled "An Act to authorize the town of Brookline to take water from Charles river," being Chapter 343 of the Acts passed in the year one thousand eight hun- dred and seventy-two, and for the purpose of defraying the cost and ex- penses which may be incurred under the provisions of said Act, the town of Brookline, through its Treasurer, hereby issues scrip or certificate of debt, to be denominated on the face thereof "Brookline Water Scrip," to an amount not exceeding four hundred thousand dollars, bearing in- terest at the rate of not more than seven per centum per annum, payable semi-annually, at some bank in Massachusetts, with coupons for said interest attached. Said scrip or certificate of debt shall be sealed with the seal of the town; shall be signed by the Treasurer, and counter- signed by a majority at least of the Selectmen. The coupons shall be

Voted, That when this meeting adjourns, it adjourn to meet in this hall to-morrow afternoon at four o'clock, and that at that time the polls be opened and kept open until seven o'clock, the check list being used, and each voter vot- ing "yes " or "no," and the vote cast shall decide without debate the motion made by Mr. Head and now before the meeting.

The Moderator then read the following motion as being under consideration at the close of the last meeting, and stated that the vote would now be taken upon the same by ballot, "yes " or "no," as voted at the adjournment on the eighteenth instant ; to wit, -

The meeting then nominated and chose Isaac Taylor on the Water Committee in place of Amos A. Lawrence, resigned, and Robert Amory in place of John W. Candler, resigned.
Voted, unanimously, That the thanks of the town be pre- sented to the Moderator for the able, faithful, and impartial manner in which he has presided over this meeting.

Second. To choose the usual town officers for the ensuing year, and three Water Commissioners, to hold office one until the annual meeting, 1874, one until the annual meeting, 1875, and one until the annual meet- ing, 1876.
Third. To hear and act upon the reports of town officers and commit- tees, and any subject therein.
Fourth. To see if the town will accept the list of jurors as revised by . the Selectmen and posted according to law.
Fifth. To see if the town will authorize the School Committee to em- ploy a Superintendent of Schools for the ensuing year.
Sixth. To see if the town will authorize repairs and alterations on the Longwood and Harvard street schoolhouses.
Seventh. To see if the town will apply to the County Commissioners to locate anew the highway called Harvard street.
Eighth. To see if the town will accept and allow a town way or ways as laid out and located by the Selectmen, leading from Harvard street to the Brookline Branch Railroad, and from the Brookline Branch Railroad to Brookline avenue, for the purpose of widening Aspinwall avenue.
Ninth. To act upon the subject of watering streets and cleaning snow and ice from the sidewalks.
Tenth. To act upon the subject of lighting streets.
Eleventh. To see if the town will act upon the subject of rules or by-laws for the conduct of town meetings.
Twelfth. To act upon the claim of James Driscoll for damages by reason of laying out and making Pearl and Emerald streets.
Thirteenth. To see if the town will pass a vote giving the Selectmen powers to increase awards for damages in laying out town ways after their acceptance by the town.

Fourteenth. To see if the town will appropriate money for the pur- chase of land for a stable and the erection of buildings thereon.
Fifteenth. To see what action the town will take in providing a build- ing for a police station.

Head, for the Joint Committee on Water Supply, who were appointed a committee on the nineteenth day of March instant to draft rules, regulations, and ordi- nances for the government of the Water Commissioners and report to the next annual meeting before the choice of said commissioners, presented and read the report of said com- mittee on rules, regulations, and ordinances for the govern- ment of the Water Commissioners.
Voted, To accept the report of the committee.
Voted, That the Joint Committee on Water Supply be dis- charged.
Voted, That the consideration of the report be postponed to the adjourned meeting.
