To either of the Constables of the Town of Brookline,
GREETING :
In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the town of Brookline, qualified to vote in elections, to meet at the Town Hall in said town, on Tuesday, the sixth day of November next, it being the Tuesday next after the first Monday in said month, at twelve of the clock noon, at which time and place the polls will be opened, and kept. open until thirty minutes past four of the clock in the after- noon, during which time they will be required to give in their votes to the Selectmen for the following State and County officers ; to wit, -
Governor, Lieutenant-Governor, Councillor for the Second Councillor District, Secretary of the Commonwealth, Treas- urer and Receiver General, Auditor of Accounts, Attorney General, Senator for the Second Norfolk Senatorial District, a Representative to the General Court for the Second Nor- folk Representative District, Sheriff for Norfolk County, one County Commissioner for three years, two Special Com- missioners, District Attorney for the Southeastern District, three Commissioners of Insolvency, all to be voted for on one ticket.

Article of Amendment.
So much of Article Two of Chapter Six of the Constitution of this Commonwealth as relates to persons holding the office of President, Pro- fessor, or Instructor of Harvard College, is hereby annulled, and such persons shall be eligible to seats in the Senate and House of Representa- tives.
The form of the ballot shall be as follows : " Amendment to the Constitution, - 'Yes ' or 'No.'"
Hereof fail not, and make due return of this warrant, with your doings thereon, to the Selectmen, four days at least be- fore the day of said meeting.
Given under our hands and seals at Brookline aforesaid, this twenty-second day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy-seven.

Pursuant to the within warrant, I have notified the inhabitants of the town of Brookline herein described, to meet at the time and place and for the purposes within mentioned, by posting up in two or more public places in said town attested copies of this warrant, and have had attested copies of this warrant left at each house in said Brookline, at least four days before the time of said meeting, and also had a copy of the said warrant published in the newspaper printed in said Brookline.

In pursuance of the foregoing warrant, the inhabitants of the town of Brookline, qualified to vote in elections, met at the Town Hall in said town, on Tuesday, the sixth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hun- dred and seventy-seven, it being the Tuesday next after the first Monday in said month, and were called to order at twelve of the clock noon, by William I. Bowditch, Esq., chairman of the Board of Selectmen. The Town Clerk then proceeded

to read the warrant calling said meeting, and the return thercon of the officer who served the notice for the same on the inhabitants.
The polls were then declared open for the reception of votes, and were kept open until thirty minutes past four of the clock in the afternoon, when, after giving due notice that they were about to be closed, so that any legal voter pres- ent who had not voted and desired to could do so, they were declared closed.
The Selectmen and Town Clerk then proceeded to sort and count the votes given in, and the whole number so given in was seven hundred and seventy-five, which were sorted, counted, and recorded, and declaration thereof made in open town meeting, as is required by law, and were for the follow- ing persons and officers ; to wit, -
For Governor : Seven hundred and seventy-one.
Alexander H. Rice, of Boston, had five hundred and thirty-six.
William Gaston, of Boston, had two hundred and twenty-one. Robert C. Pitman, of Newton, had fourteen.
Lieutenant Governor : Seven hundred and seventy-two.
Horatio G. Knight, of Easthampton, had five hundred and thirty-six. William R. Plunkett, of Pittsfield, had two hundred and twenty-seven. Elijah A. Morse, of Canton, had nine.
Secretary of the Commonwealth : Seven hundred and seventy-one. Henry B. Pierce, of Abington, had five hundred and thirty-seven. Weston Howland, of Fairhaven, had two hundred and twenty-five. David B. Gurney, of South Abington, had nine.

In voting, the check list was used, and no person was al- lowed to deposit his vote until his name was found on the list and checked.
The business of the meeting being accomplished, the re- turns were filled up, signed by the Selectmen, countersigned by the Town Clerk, and sealed up in open town meeting, as required by law, and were delivered to the Town Clerk, to forward to their several places of destination.
The votes cast and the list of voters which had been used at the meeting were then sealed up, endorsed by the Select- men, and delivered into the custody of the Town Clerk in conformity with the law in such cases made and provided.
The meeting was then declared dissolved by William .I. Bowditch, Esq., chairman of the Board of Selectmen.

You are hereby required to warn the qualified voters of the " Channing Free Church" to meet at the vestry of said church, on Thursday, the seventh of March next, at seven o'clock P.M., for the purpose of organizing themselves into a religious society under the above mentioned name, in pur- suance of a written request to me directed by yourself and others, and bearing even date herewith, and in compliance with the provisions of the twenty-eighth Section of the twen- tieth Chapter of the Revised Statutes, and for the purpose of raising funds. And you are further required to make due return hereof at said time and place.
Given under my hand and seal this twenty-first day of Feb- ruary A.D. eighteen hundred and seventy-eight.

In pursuance of the foregoing warrant, the persons inter- ested met in the vestry of the Channing Free Church at the corner of Washington and School streets in the town of Brookline, County of Norfolk and Commonwealth of Massa- chusetts, on Tuesday, the seventh day of March in the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy-eight, and were called to order at half-past seven of the clock in the evening by Mr. Hosea H. Lincoln, who read the warrant calling said meeting, and the return thereon of the person to whom it was directed, and presided during the election of Clerk.
The meeting then proceeded to choose a Clerk by written votes ; to wit, -
For Clerk, Henry F. Stodder had all the votes cast, and was declared elected to that office.
The Clerk was then sworn to the faithful discharge of the duties of the office, by James H. Beals, Esquire, a Justice of the Peace for the County of Norfolk.
The meeting then, the Clerk presiding, proceeded to bring in their votes for a Moderator, as follows ; to wit, -
For Moderator, George N. Carpenter had all the votes cast, was declared elected, and took the chair.
The meeting then proceeded to choose, by written votes, the following officers of the society ; to wit, -
For Treasurer and Collector, Wallace S. Draper had all the votes cast, and was declared elected to that office.
The Treasurer and Collector was then sworn to the faith- ful discharge of the duties of the office by James H. Beals, a Justice of the Peace for the County of Norfolk.
Prudential Committee : - the following gentlemen having received all the votes cast were declared elected to that office ; to wit, Alonzo Bowman, William D. Rand, William J. Dana, Russell Hallett, A. H. Dowser.
Voted, That the Prudential Committee, with the other offi- cers, report a code of by-laws at the next meeting.

In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the town of Brookline, qualified to vote in elections, to meet at the Town Hall in said town, on Tuesday, the twenty-sixth day of March instant, at one of the clock in the afternoon, for the following purposes ; to wit, -
First. To choose a Moderator.
Second. To see if the town will choose two women as Overseers of the Poor.
Third. To choose the usual town officers for the ensuing year.
Fourth. To hear and act upon the reports of town officers and com- mittees.
Fifth. To see what action the town will take in reference to the sale of intoxicating liquors, and whether it will advise the Selectmen to grant or withhold licenses.
Sixth. To see what action the town will take in reference to putting down lateral sewers in the village and in Longwood.
Seventh. To see what action the town will take in reference to laying down a sewer in Aspinwall avenue, to connect with the present sewers in School and Harvard streets; such sewer to take none of the water from Aspinwall brook and to have no overflow into the same.
Eighth. To hear and act upon the report of the Committee on the Mode of Laying Assessments for the right to use the town sewers.
Ninth. To see what action the town will take in reference to uniting with Boston in making a new channel for Muddy river, so that the river may be kept free from sewage as far as possible.
Tenth. To hear and act upon the report of the Committee on By- Laws.
Eleventh. To see what action the town will take in reference to Aaron D. Weld's right of way across the northwest corner of the new ceme- tery.
Twelfth. To see 'whether the town will make an appropriation for lighting St. Paul street from Longwood avenue to Francis street, and to place a lamp near the corner of Morss avenue and Walnut street.

Thirteenth. To see if the town will accept the list of jurors as re- vised by the Selectmen, and posted according to law.
Fourteenth. To raise and appropriate such sums of money as may be required to defray the expenses of the town during the ensuing year, and for any or all of the foregoing articles.
Hereof fail not, and make due return of this warrant, with your doings thereon, to the Selectmen, four days at least before the day of said meeting.

Pursuant to the within warrant, I have notified the inhabitants of the town of Brookline herein described, to meet at the time and place and for the purposes within mentioned, by posting up attested copies of this warrant in two or more public places in said town, and have had true attested copies left at each house in said Brookline at least four days before the said meeting, and also published the same in the newspaper printed in the said town of Brookline.

In pursuance of the foregoing warrant, the inhabitants of the town of Brookline, qualified to vote in elections, met at the Town Hall in said town, on Tuesday, the twenty-sixth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hun- dred and seventy-eight, and were called to order at one of the clock in the afternoon by the Town Clerk, who proceeded to read the warrant calling said meeting, and the return thereon of the officer who served the notice thereof upon the inhabitants.
