By virtue of the within warrant, I have notified and warned the legal voters of the town of Brookline, qualified to vote in elections, to meet at the time and place, and for the purposes within specified, by leaving an attested copy of this warrant at their last and usual places of abode.

In pursuance of the foregoing warrant, the inhabitants of the town of Brookline, qualified to vote in elections, met at the Town Hall in said town, on Monday, the twentieth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy-six, and were called to order at one of the clock in the afternoon by the Town Clerk, who proceeded to read the warrant calling said meeting, and the return thereon of the officer who served the notices for said meeting.

To choose a Moderator.
Voted, That the polls be kept open fifteen minutes for the reception of votes for Moderator.
The polls were then declared open for the reception of votes for Moderator, and were kept open fifteen minutes, when they were declared closed.
The Town Clerk then proceeded to sort and count the votes given in for Moderator, and the whole number so given in was seventy-three. For Moderator, William I. Bowditch had seventy-three, was declared elected, and took the chair.
The meeting was then called to order by the Moderator, and prayer was offered by the Rev. Howard N. Brown.

Voted, That the Water Board enter upon the care of the water works when the present Board of Water Commis- sioners are discharged.

Water Board of three to manage the water works, subject to any vote or ordinance of the town ; members of the School Committee, three to serve for three years, one to serve for two years, one to serve for one year ; Trustees of the Public Library, four to serve for three years, one to serve for two years ; a Board of Health of three, one Commissioner of the Sinking Fund, three Auditors, two Fence Viewers, two Trustees of the Cemetery, and eleven Constables.
Voted, That the polls be kept open until sunset.
The polls were then declared open for the reception of votes for the various town officers above specified, and were kept open until fifteen minutes past six of the clock in the afternoon, when, after giving notice thereof, so that any voter present might have an opportunity to deposit his vote if he desired so to do, they were declared closed.
The Moderator and Town Clerk then proceeded to sort and count the votes given in, and the whole number of votes so given in was six hundred and ninety-seven ; and the fol- lowing persons, having a plurality of the votes cast for their several offices, and all but three a majority, were declared elected ; to wit, -

Bowditch.

The Moderator called the attention of the town to the sub- ject of registering the bonds and water scrip of the town.
Mr. Daniel H. Rogers was appointed a committee to confer with the Treasurer in relation to opening a set of books for the registration of bonds, so the holder may be secured and the town and the owner be held responsible.
Mr. Joshua Crane was appointed a member of the commit- tee on the Treasurer's report, in place of Mr. Robert S. Littell, who had resigned.
The Selectmen, to whom was referred the subject of the Eighth Article in reference to the widening of Grove street, reported the estimated cost of making that improvement.
Voted, That the further consideration of widening Grove street be referred to the adjourned meeting, and that in the mean time Mr. W. A. Humphrey procure information in re- lation to the cost of making the same.
