Voted, Unanimously, that the gentlemen above nominated compose said committee.
Voted, That all sums of money at any time hereafter re- ceived into the treasury from assessments for building sew- ers, or for the right to enter sewers, shall be held as a reserve fund for the further construction of sewers in this town, and the current expenses in relation to sewers, and may be ex- pended by the Selectmen in like manner with the yearly appropriations for the purpose, and for paying land damages.
Voted, That the Selectmen be instructed to prevent any material encroachment on the drainage capacity now afforded by Muddy river, and they are hereby advised to lay out our side of said river as a sewer, if, in their judgment, it shall become necessary so to do in order to prevent such encroach- ment.

To either of the Constables of the Town of Brookline, GREETING :
In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabitants of the town of Brookline, qualified to vote in elections, to meet at the Town Hall in said town, on Tuesday, the twenty-seventh day of March instant, at one of the clock in the afternoon, for the following purposes ; to wit, -
First. To choose a Moderator.
Second. To see if the town will choose two women as Overseers of the Poor.
Third. To see if the town will appoint any persons to assist the Moderator and Town Clerk in sorting and counting the votes for town officers, so that the result of the ballot may be declared as soon as may be after the polls have been closed.
Fourth. To choose the usual town officers for the ensuing year.
Fifth. To see what action the town will take in consequence of the refusal of the Legislature to authorize the town to borrow three hundred thousand dollars, and to see if the town will borrow money to build the main sewer to Charles river, and to pay land damages.
Sixth. To hear and act upon the reports of town officers and com- mittees.
Seventh. To see what action the town will take in reference to con- necting by telegraph our police station with the police stations in Bos- ton.
Eighth. To see what action the town will take in reference to estab- lishing a fire-alarm telegraph.
Ninth. To see what action the town will take in reference to the plac- ing of hose and suitable carriages therefor, in such parts of the town as are remote from the steam fire-engine house, on the petition of John H. Foster and others.
Tenth. To see what action the town will take in regard to the pur- chase of land and the erection of a school building, as recommended by the School Committee, and to make the necessary appropriations there- for.

Eleventh. To see if the town will authorize the Selectmen to choose a Forester. and to define his duties.
Twelfth. To see if the town will accept the list of jurors as revised by the Selectmen and posted according to law.
Thirteenth. To see if the town will make any alteration in the by-law concerning the printing of town reports, approved by the Superior Court, April, 1874.
Fourteenth. To see what action the town will take in reference to the repairing or rebuilding Longwood avenue bridge.
Fifteenth. To see if the town will authorize the Selectmen to take any action to a better accommodation of the public travel to and from the Brookline railroad station in the village, and to confer with the Boston & Albany Railroad Company in relation thereto, on the petition of John W. Candler and others.
Sixteenth. To raise and appropriate such sums of money as may be required to defray the expenses of the town during the ensuing year, and for any or all the foregoing articles.
Hereof fail not, and make due return of this warrant, with your doings thereon, to the Selectmen, four days at least be- fore the day of said meeting.

First Article taken up :
To choose a Moderator.
Voted, That the polls be kept open five minutes.
The polls were then declared open for the reception of votes for Moderator, and the whole number of votes given in was forty. For Moderator, William I. Bowditch had forty.
The meeting was then called to order by the Moderator, and prayer was offered by the Rev. Henry C. Mabie.
The Second Article was then taken up :
To see if the town will choose two women as Overseers of the Poor.
Voted, That two women be placed on the Board of Over- seers of the Poor.
On motion of Hon. William Aspinwall, it was -
Voted, To choose by ballot the following town officers ; to wit, -
A Town Clerk, five Selectmen, who shall be Surveyors of Highways, and a Board of Health ; seven Overseers of the Poor, three Assessors, a Treasurer and Collector, a Water Board of three, one for three years, one for two years, and one for one year ; three members of the School Committee for three years, and one member of the School Committee for two years ; two Trustees of the Walnut Hills Cemetery for three years, three Auditors, one Commissioner of the Sinking Fund for three years, two Fence Viewers, and ten Constables, all to be voted for on one ballot.
Third Article taken up :
To see if the town will appoint any persons to assist the Moderator and Town Clerk in sorting and counting the votes for town officers, so that the result of the ballot may be declared as soon as may be after the polls have been closed.

The polls were then declared open for the reception of votes for the various town officers, and were kept open until four of the clock in the afternoon, when, after giving notice that they were about to be closed, so that any voter who had not voted and desired so to do could have an opportunity to deposit his vote, they were declared closed.
The Moderator and Town Clerk then proceeded to help sort and count the votes so given in, and the whole number of votes so given in was five hundred and twelve, and the following persons, having a plurality of the votes so given in, were declared elected ; to wit, -

Fifth Article taken up :
To see what action the town will take in consequence of the refusal of the Legislature to authorize the town to borrow three hundred thousand dollars, and to see if the town will borrow money to build the main sewer to Charles river, and to pay land damages.
Voted, That for the purpose of constructing the main sewer laid out by the Selectmen, and duly accepted by this town, and for paying land damages, the Treasurer is hereby authorized and directed, with the advice and consent of the Selectmen, to borrow not exceeding $125,000 from time to time, as needed by them, and to issue therefor the bonds of this town, to be called sewer bonds, to be made payable in twenty years from date of the bonds, bearing interest not exceeding six per cent. per annum, payable half yearly ; and the sum of $7500 is hereby appropriated, to be raised by

taxation this year, to pay the interest on the bonds so to be issued ; and the sum of $3600 is hereby appropriated to be added to the sinking fund appropriation, to be also raised by taxation this year and each succeeding year until the final payment of the bonds thus authorized to be issued. If, however, the money shall be borrowed at five per cent. or a less rate of interest, the amount to be raised for the payment of interest shall be proportionally reduced.
Voted, That the balance of the sums raised by taxation at the last annual meeting for the construction of sewers, $20,000, be reappropriated and placed at the disposal of the Selectmen, to be expended by them in the construction of said sewer, and in paying land damages.
Sixth Article taken up :
To hear and act upon the reports of town officers and commitees.
The following reports, which had been printed and dis- tributed among the inhabitants of the town, were then pre- sented and accepted ; to wit, --
Report of the Treasurer, report of the Selectmen, report of the Town Clerk, report of the Trustees of Walnut Hills Cemetery, report of the Commissioners of the Sinking Fund, report of the Board of Health, report of the Trustees of the Public Library, report of the School Committee, report of the Assessors.
The Trustees of Walnut Hills Cemetery offered the follow- ing vote, which was passed ; to wit, -
Voted, That there be paid the Town Clerk, for his services as Clerk of the Trustees for the last two years, the sum of $400, and that his salary for the next year be $150.
On motion of William I. Bowditch, chairman of the Trus- tees of Walnut Hills Cemetery, it was -
Voted, That in accordance with the request of the Com- mittee of C. L. Chandler Post, No. 143, G.A.R., the town hereby authorizes the Trustees of Walnut Hills Cemetery to select and grade a lot in the cemetery for the use of said Post. They are also authorized to convey the lot to the officers of the Post without compensation, and agree to keep the same in good order and condition at the expense of the town.

Fourteenth Article taken up :
To see what action the town will take in reference to the repairing or rebuilding Longwood avenue bridge.
Voted, That a special committee of five be appointed by the Moderator to examine carefully the condition of Longwood bridge, and determine whether or not, in their judgment, it can be judiciously repaired. If they shall determine that it can be repaired, they are to report the probable cost of such repairs at the adjourned, or some future meeting.
If, however, they shall think that it is unwise to spend any more money in repairing the bridge, they are directed to ex- amine the schemes for a bridge prepared by the Boston engi- neers, and to report to the town whether, in their opinion, it is expedient for us to adopt either of them ; and, if neither, then what plan we had better adopt, and the probable cost of the work.
