In all the larger places the names have been procured by personal canvass, but in the smaller they have been furnished by postmasters. Great care has been taken to insure cor- rectness, as well as completeness.

A postoffice and station on the Kalamazoo Div. L. S. & M. S. Ry, in Watson town- ship, Allegan county, 6 miles southeast of Allegan court house, 19 northwest of Kal- amazoo, and 162 west of Detroit. ABSCOTA.


A postoffice and rural settlement in Bur- lington township, Calhoun county, 18 miles southwest of Marshall, the county seat, 123 from Detroit, and 6 north of Union City, on the Air Line Div. M. C. R. R., its near- est bank and railroad point. A steam saw. mill, Methodist church and common school are here. Mail stage to Ceresco, 12 miles north, once a week. ACHILL.


A postoffice in the southeastern part of Roscommon county, established in 1879. Mail is received by special supply from Ogemaw Springs, 20 miles northeast, via which the place is $6 miles northwest of Bay City.


AOME.


A village of about 75 people, in East Bay township, Grand Traverse county. It is situated on the east shore of Grand Traverse Bay, 7 miles from Traverse City and 10 from Elk Rapids, and contains a Methodist church and public school. It derives water power from Mullet creek, and has a carding and fulling mill and a saw-mill. During the season of naviga- tion, shipments of wood and humber are made to Chicago, Milwaukee and Racine. Stage to Traverse City daily, and daily mail. Mail also from Williamsburg, five miles cast, three times per week, and weekly from Barker's Creek. Telegraph, Western Union. H. K. ACTON.


A postoffice established in April. 1880. in the township of Burleigh, losco county. It is on Johnson's creek, in the southwest coruer of the county. 16 miles northeast of Sterling, is railroad and shipping point via the Mackinaw Div. M. C. R. R., and 18 miles southwest of Tawas City, the county seat. The nearest bank is at Bas City. It is in a pine timber country, aud pine logs are exported. Mail, by special supply, weekly. A. W. Is located at the junction of the Grand and Thornapple rivers, and is a station of the D., G. H. & M. Ry, in Ada township, Kent county, 10 miles east of Grand Rep- ids and 148 north of west from Detroit. Two flouring mills derive power from Thornapple river, and the place contains Baptist, Congregational and Methodis: Episcopal churches, and a public school. The surrounding country is rolling, and consists of very desirable farming lands. cereals and fruit being the leading pro- ducts. The settlement was formed in 1850. and has a population of 150.
