Ry, 18 miles northwest of Detroit, and ? southeast of Pontiac, the county seat. It has 2 flour and 2 saw-mills deriving power from the river, a paint factory, Adventist, Baptist. Methodist and Presbyterian churches, a fine graded school, a ladies' library of 1.00 volumes, and a neat soldiers' monument. Express, American. Telegraph. Western Union. Population, 800. Lies on a river of same name, in the township and county of Alcona, on the shore of Lake Huron, 12 miles above Har- risville, the county seat. Standish is the nearest railroad station, and, during close of navigation, the shipping point. Bank at Alpena. During navigation, direct com- munication by boat is had with Bay City and Detroit. Lumbering is the principal business here, and lumber, shingles and long timber are the shipments. Popula- tion, 400. Mail stage, daily to Harrisville. Telegraphı, Western Union. C. M. BLANCHARD.


An incorporated village of 250 inhabi- tants, on the Stanton Br. D., L. & N. R. R., in Rolland township, Isabella county. 24 miles southwest of Mt. Pleasant, the county seat, and 41 north of Ionia. It was settled in 1878, is located on Pine river. and has steam saw, shingle and planing mills. Land in the neighborhood is valued at from $10 to $30 per acre. BLISSFIELD.


The vicinity in which Blissfield is lo- cated was originally settled in 1824, the first township election was held in 1827, the village located in 1828 and chartered in 1875. "It is on the main line of the L. S. & M. S. Ry, in Blissfield township, Lenawee county, 10 miles southeast of Adrian, the county seat, 23 northwest of Toledo, O., and 65 southwest of Detroit.


It is on the south branch of the river Rai- sin, in the midst of a level, heavily-tim- bered country, of which wheat, corn and grass are leading crops. The public build- ings comprise 3 halls. 1 with seating ca- pacity for 500, 3 churches-Methodist. Presbyterian and German Lutheran -- 2 graded public schools, with 6 teachers and an attendance of 400 pupils, a first-class four-story brick hotel-Drew's. The Blies- field Adrance, a weekly paper, is pub- lished, and a ladies' library association has about 600 volumes. The village has a bonded indebtedness of $3,147, and prop- erty, real and personal, is assessed at $403,- 000. Total amount of freight shipped in 1879, 9,798,123 lbs. The price of land ranges from $10 for unimproved to $100 per acre for best farms. The manufacto- ries embrace an iron foundry, a saw-mill (water), and 2 flouring mills.
