ANNUAL REPORT

Report of the Parks Department

We the Parks Commissioners are happy to report for the fiscal year 1965.

In Precinct 2, Cherry Valley, we have made a special effort, to keep our Parks, and Athletic Field, in the best pos- sible condition. During the Winter of 1965, we had a severe ice storm, which toppled trees. They were cut down and cleaned up in very fine shape. It did cut our budget for Towtaid Park some, but to our concern no casualties were reported. Basketball Leagues were completed, and Tennis Lectures were given. All swings were repaired.

During the coming year we will have to have the lights repaired, due to Breakage. Backboards and nest will be re- paired due to vandalism.

Community Field, was in the finest shape ever. The High School Baseball, and Football games, as well, as Babe Ruth League games were enjoyed by both participant's and fans.

The Voters of the Town, will in the future have to think of repairing a Wall on the Waite Street, side of the Field.

We would also like to see the Voters appropriate Monies for Bleachers, for Community Field.

Precinct 3 Rochdale

The Park and Beach in Rochdale has been worked on and receeded, and is truly one of our finest Parks in Town. The Beach has been kept cleaned, and new fences have been erected for Safety purposes. New Tables and Benches have been installed for Picnics. New swings will be put up this

Report of the Dirctor of Maintenance of the Memorial Square

13 December 1965

Office of the Board of Selectmen

Town of Leicester Leicester, Massachusetts

Gentlemen :

The following is the report of the Director of Mainten- ance of the Memorial Squares for 1965:

The maintenance of all the Memorial Squares was cared for by the Keenan Landscaping Company from the Spring Cleanup, through the summer months, and including the fall cleanup, in a very satisfactory manner.

The project of relocating and rebuilding of the Law- rence F. McCarthy Square was completed this year.

The project of rebuilding of the John A. Davis Square was started this year and everything but the landscaping was done. Due to the long dry season it was felt that it would be better to wait till the spring of 1966 to landscape the square. This will be completed this Spring.

The rebuilding of the Lawrence Harris Square, dam- age done by an automobile, was accomplished as was the damage to Edward Pepin Square.

It is hoped that the work planned for 1966 will complete the permanent repairs and this work is to include the following squares: Ralph Dwinell, Edward Grady, Howard Gallant and Herbert Bean Squares.

77

ANNUAL REPORT

The Leicester Center Fire Department took the project of replacing the wooden frame on the Center Honor Roll with a granite slab and this project was completed and it is with thanks and appreciation to the Fire Department for undertaking this task of completing this memorial we, the Townfolks, are grateful for.

There are 15 Memorial Squares within the Town of Leicester and all in all they are in good shape. This task of making these squares suitable memorials has been carried on for the past 10 years and it is hoped that the final touches will be accomplished this coming spring.

Respectfully submitted, EDWARD H. DUANE Director, Memorial Square Maintenance
