Leicester continued its affiliation with the Worcester County Forensic League with monthly debates, and was in- vited to join the Central Massachusetts Forensic League, This latter league has large-school representation and was a big step for the new Leicester group. The teams are from St. Peter's, St. John's, Framingham North, Shrewsbury, Grafton, Notre Dame of Fitchburg and Holy Name of Wor- cester. A spring tournament will be held to determine the comparitive rank of each team and monthly practice tourna- ments are held.
In Worcester County Forensic League the Intermediate team consisting of Bernard McNamara, David Whitney, Geraldine McQuoid, and Richard Anderson placed second and won a trophy for the first-half-year competition which ended with the December tournament at St. Stephen's High School. We were very proud of the team's accomplishment in their second year of formal competition.
Two teams made the trip to the University of Massa- chusetts Debate Workshop in November and attended a series of lectures on the National topic of Labor-Manage- ment Relations. It was a wonderful day for the students as it gave them a glimpse of campus life and an opportunity to hear professors who are authorities in the field.
In February, the intermediate team will compete in the Nichols College invitational tournament which has the finest team in Masachusetts vying for top honors.
The club is an enthusiastic group and works very hard to maintain a high degree of achievement. At least two afternoons a week are given by the students for practice, research, lectures and gathering new material. They have purchased nine maroon jackets this year so that our teams present a trim appearance at the regular monthly tourna- ments which they attend.
The Debate Club is a valuable adjunct to the Social

Studies, English and Public Speaking Departments. It con- tributes to the students' development in research, organiza- tion of materials, reasoning and analysis. Most of all it teaches the debator to think on his feet and to speak extem- poraneously with knowledge and authority.

The junior varsity squad, handled by Mr. Joseph Carlo- magno, enjoyed a highly successful season. Many future stars learned the basic skills and fundamentals of team play which will be invaluable to future varsity teams.
The baseball team, coached by Mr. Edward Lucier, par- ticipated in the Southern Worcester County Blackstone Val- ley League for the first year. The team was captained by Carl Hewitt and posted a record of 8 wins and 9 losses.
