JAMES H. MERRILL, of another branch of the Merrills, born in Poland, April 25, 1808, son of John T. Merrill, of New Gloucester, and his wife, Hannah Chipman, of Duxbury, Massa- chusetts, married, November 19, 1834, Mary Bodge, who was born in Windham, January 27, 1809. He came to Norway in March, 1847. He has been a farmer and trader and an influential citizen. He represented the town in the Legislature in 1867, and has held other positions of responsibility and trust. Children : -

MILLETT.
The American ancestor of the Milletts of this town was Thomas, who was born in England in 1605. He married Mary Greenoway, and came to this country in the ship Elizabeth, and settled at Dorchester. In 1655, he became preaching elder in the first church at Gloucester, Massachusetts. On the records he was called "Mr." which was an honorary title in those days. In 1676, he, his daughter, and three grandchildren, were killed by the Indians in Brookfield, Massachusetts.
THOMAS MILLETT JR.,2 born 1632, son of the preceding, married first, Mary Eveleth, and second, widow Abigail Eveleth. He had sons Thomas, John, and Nathaniel.
JOHN MILLETT,8 son of the preceding, born 1692, married Eunice Babson, and lived in Gloucester. He had sons David, John, and Thomas. His son David married Sarah Byles, settled in New Gloucester, and had sons David, John, Solomon, Thomas, and Israel.
JOHN MILLETT,4 son of the preceding, born in 1730, married Mary Woodhouse. He lived in Gloucester, and was a master-mariner. He was accidentally killed on board his ship in the West Indies, and his family moved to Minot. Children : -

MOORE.
WILL MOORE is the son of the late Dexter and Mary (Jordan) Moore, and was born in Lovell, Maine, January 12, 1855. After the death of his parents, he went to Massachusetts, where he worked at sign painting. He subsequently came to Norway and bought the carriage factory on Cottage street, where he now carries on the sign and carriage painting business. . He married, June 22, 1885, Mrs. Arabine Hazeltine, widow of Stillman W. Hazeltine, also widow of John Palmer, and whose maiden name was Shuman, of Lewiston. She is success- fully carrying on the millinery business in Norway Village.
MORSE.
NATHAN MORSE JR., born in Lewiston in 1788, married Mary Crockett, who was born in Danville the same year. His father was Nathan Morse, who married Sarah Bacon, all of · Dedham, Massachusetts. Nathan Morse Jr. came to Norway from Lewiston in 1814. Chil- dren : -

He was born in Freedom, New Hampshire, March 5, 1833, and came from thence to Norway in IS52. He married, January 1, 1862, Annette Frost, who was born in Norway, March 20, 1840. Children : -

JOHN NEEDHAM, from Tewksbury, Massachusetts, was among our quite early settlers. He was a Revolutionary pensioner. He married Mary Shedd, a sister of Jonathan Shedd, the early settler in the northwest part of the town. Children : -

JOHN NEEDHAM JR., son of the preceding, married first, Abigail, daughter of Nehemiah Holt, of Albany, who was born May 14, 1797. He lived many years in Greenwood, where

his children were born. He then moved to a farm in Bethel, and late in life to Bethel Hill, where he died. For second wife he married, in 1842, Elmira Mills, of Gilead. He was a thrifty and independent farmer. Children : -
I. Stephen H., b. March 5, 1818 ; m., September 8, 1846, Mary Ann, daughter of Robert Taylor, b. in Shelburne, New Hampshire, January 26, 1826.
II. William F., b. September 3, 1821 ; m. Esther Wardwell. He went to Massachusetts.
III. Harriet, b. March 8, 1825; m. Ist, October 9, 1841, Isaac Pressey, who d. in April, 1854, and 2d, Ward Noyes. She died in Portland.
IV. John, b. April 14, 1828; m. Hannah Houston, of Gorham.
V. Dudley, b. October 30, 1834; m., December 25, 1853, Cordelia, daughter of Stephen and Ruth (Cummings) Buck.
EVI NEEDHAM, brother of the preceding, married Maria, daughter of Stephen Latham. He lived in the north part of Norway for many years, and all his children, except the youngest, were born here. He then moved to Bethel, and died there, and his widow married Enoch Stiles. Children : -
I. John, b. July 2, 1823; m. Irene C. Lapham, and died at West Bethel.
II. Reuel W., b. January 11, 1826; m. Philena Whiting, of Springfield, Massachusetts ; r. in Rumford.
III. Sumner Henry (see Personal Notice), b. March 2, 1828; m. Hannah Johnson. He enlisted from Lawrence, Massachusetts, in the Sixth Massachusetts Regiment, and was mortally wounded by the mob in Baltimore, while the regiment was passing through that city.
IV. Olive M., b. December 19, 1829; m. Jonathan M. Bartlett, of Bethel.
V. Otis Sylvester, b. August, 1831 ; m. Emma Shaw, of Holyoke; d. West Bethel.
VI. Clarissa, b. July 2, 1837 ; m. Gorham Whitney, of Unity, Maine; died.
VII. Charles M., b. July 2, 1837 ; m. Ist, Lucy Eggleston, 2d, Ellen Moulton.
VIII. Melinda F., b. July 17, 1839; m. Christopher C. Bean, of Bethel.
IX. Emily E., b. Bethel, December 19, 1845.
WILLIAM NEEDHAM, brother of the preceding, lived in Greenwood and Norway. He mar- ried Eliza, daughter of Jonas Stevens, of Greenwood. Children : -

THOMAS JEFFERSON NEEDHAM, brother of the preceding, lived in Greenwood, and moved back to Norway. He married Mary B., daughter of Jonas Stevens, of Greenwood. Chil- dren : -

STEPHEN H. NEEDHAM, oldest son of John Needham Jr., married at Bethel, September S, IS46, Mary Ann, daughter of Robert Taylor, who was born in Shelburne, New Hampshire, January 26, 1826. He learned the carriage-maker's trade of Jonathan Blake, at Walker's Mills, but he liked farming better, and made that his life pursuit. He moved from Bethel to Norway in 1860. Children : -
I. Evi F., b. Bethel, November 4, 1848; m., November, 1868, Addie E. Packard, of Greenwood; d. November 17, 1869.
II. Stephen A., b. October 28, 1851; m., December 25, 1872, Rose T. Thomas, of Greenwood.
III. Hannah M., b. March 11, 1855; m., March 25, 1877, George W. Richardson, of Greenwood.
IV. Claudius Noyes, b. Norway, August 11, 1860; m., November 29, 1882, Edna L. Corliss, of Canton.
V. Emma R., b. June 25, 1866; m., November 29, 1882, Timothy Heath. She was killed on the Grand Trunk Railway, December 3, 1883.
VI. Asa F., b. August 26, 1871.
NEVERS.
WILLIAM M. NEVERS, born in Sweden, Maine, in 1828, son of William Nevers Jr., and Hannah Holden, his wife, married in 1856, Mary E. D. Saunders, came to Norway in 1878. He was a soldier in the late war, and is now employed in the tannery. Children : -

THOMAS L. NEWCOMB, a tanner by trade, was born in Harrison, May 17, 1834. He was the son of Thomas L. Newcomb, who was born in Buxton, February 10, 1803, and Sarah C. Ingalls, born in Bridgton, August 9, 1809. He married, May 20, 1856, Amy C. Smith, born in Otisfield, June 5, 1834. Children : -
I. Alfred A., b. November 8, 1858; m., August 14, 18S2, Belinda C. Hartford, of Brownfield.
II. Emma A., b. February 17, 1862.
