GEORGE JAMES ORDWAY, youngest son of Amos Ordway, went in early life to Boston, and was the confidential clerk of Greeley & Guild. About the year 1837, he came to Norway, intending to remain here and take care of his father. Soon after, he went to China, and was absent about a year, when he returned, and bought land in different parts of the town, and engaged in farming. He went into trade in the village about the year 1841, and succeeded William Reed as postmaster. He occupied the old Barton store, which he remodeled and fitted up in modern style. He kept a much better stock of goods than had ever before been kept in the village, and the prices he was obliged to ask, placed them beyond the reach of the average farmers in this vicinity. The result was, that in three or four years he failed. When he began trade, he was worth about ten thousand dollars. After going through bankruptcy, he went to Portland, and was clerk for Emery & Waterhouse until his health failed, when he went to Boston, and died at the house of his nephew. He was married, in 1852, to Olive G. Robbins, of North Yarmouth, who died some three or four years before her husband.

GEORGE D. T. ORDWAY, son of Amos Jr., came to Norway with his widowed mother in 1836. He was born in St. Andrews, August 12, 1823. He remained here until 1839, when he went to New York and worked at carpentering, but not liking the business, he returned to St. Andrews. In 1840, he went to Boston where he remained a year, then when his uncle went into trade in Norway, he came here and became his clerk and assistant post- master. After his uncle's failure, he returned to Boston and obtained a situation in a whole- sale dry goods store. He afterward went into business for himself and has been very successful. He has now retired from active business. He was married at Yonkers, New York, January 26, 1860, to Charlotte W.
