BLENDON.


A postoffice in Ottawa county, 23 miles southeast of Grand Haven on the mail route between that place and Grandville.


BLISSFIELD.


The village of Blissfield is situated on the river Raisin, which divides it in nearly equal parts, in the county of Lenawee, 10 miles from Adrian, and 22 miles from Toledo. It lies on the main line of the L. S. & M. S. R. R., about 2 miles east of the junction with the Canada Southern.


The population of the town is estimated at 1,500, and with fair prospects of continued growth.


The farming country about is of excellent quality.


The river Raisin affords water power for a grist and saw mill, the balance of the manu- facturing establishments being run by steam. They consist of a flouring mill owned by Love & Dunn, a saw mill by Henry Jipson, the tobacco manufacturing company, a large stave factory and cooper shop, giving employ- ment to some 70 men. the foundry and machine shop of John Watson, 2 large furni- ture manufactories, one owned by Bliss & Son, and the other by M. Small, 3 large carriage shops, owned respectively by E. T. Rogers, Ford & Gilman, and Fred. Cannon, and the handle factory of Brown & Ellis.


Sportsmen here claim to have the finest half-mile training race course in the State.


The public buildings of the town consist of two good halls and two churches, Method- ist and Presbyterian. A first class union school is in prospect. BROCKWAY CENTER.


A considerable village in Brockway town- ship in the northwestern part of St. Clair county. It is situated on Mill creek, a branch of Black river, 12 miles south of Emmett's, on the Chicago and Port Huron R R, its nearest railroad station, and it is 25 miles northwest of Port Huron. The coun- try around is well settled and is a productive farming region. The village has a foundry, a woolen mill, saw and grist mills, and the usual complement of stores, hotels, shops, etc. Principal shipments are agricultural products and lumber. Population 600. BRONSON.


A flourishing little village of 900 inhabi- tants on the L. S. & M. S. R. R., 12 miles west of Coldwater. It is in the southwest part of Branch county, in an excellent farm- ing region.


Notwithstanding there is no water power, there is a fair show of manufacturing enter- prises, among which may be noticed the flouring mill, two saw mills, stave factory, foundry of C. M. Van Every, cooper shop of Benton & Dorsey, and the wagon shop of Mr. Cruthers.
