Recommended by the Highest Authorities as being the most Perfect, Reliable and Economical Lubricator in Use.
In its application to Steam Engines, Heavy or light Machinery, line shafting, etc,, one pound of the Lubricator is equal to three gallons of the best Land Oil. It saves 40 per cent in brasses, economizes time, and in cases of hot journals, fof rare occurrence with this Lubricator) no stoppage being necessary. It can be applied to any engine, and can be used in any common brass oil cup, by simply removing the inside tube and ifretting therein a twisted wire, which should run through the cup and rest on the journal, as shown in the engraving. It does not become gummy or viseid, as do most of the Lubricaters now in use, but works clean, smooth and satisfactory, and possesses the excellent property of adhering to heated parts, a property lamentable deficient in all of the oil Inbratys.
If in cold weather the Fibrene i ubrugter should become a little stift, the addition of a little land od, or even water, will produce the proper consistency.

It is located on the south branch of the river Raisin, nearly in the center of the county, and 33 miles west of Toledo, 74 southwest of Detroit and 210 east of Chicago. It is $3 miles from Lansing.
It is surrounded by a splendid farming country, which contributes largely to its trade. Its population, according to the census of IS74, was 8,806, a falling off of 1, 200 from the returns of isto, a phenomenon account- ed for, in part, by the imperfect system in use for taking the State census, and, in part,

by the recent removal of a large portion of the railroad shops to Elkhart.
The assessed valuation of the real and personal property of the city is $1, 640,104, its real value being over $5,000,000. The corporation limits have not been extended within the past two years, or since the last issue of this work, nor have any new churches or other public buildings been erected in that time.
There are 12 churches, with property valued at $300,000.
The public schools consist of a central building and four large ward schools. Ag- gregate value of school property, $140,000. Number of children of school ages, 3,000 Number of teachers employed, 30, Aggre- gate amount of teachers' salaries, $14.500. Number of volumes in school library, 1,400,
The college under the auspices of the Methodist denomination is in a flourishing condition. Rev. Geo. B. McElroy, D. D., is now president.
Among the principal manufacturing enter- prises, are the Adrian Car Manufacturing Co. and the Illinois Car Manufacturing Co., each employing a large number of hands; two large planing mills, two machine shops, two furniture factories, two carriage and wagon factories, and a number of smaller concerns in various branches, The railroad shops still remaining employ, constantly, about 200 men.
The moneyed institutions of Adrian com- prise one national bank, one private bank, two savings banks and the Michigan State Insurance Company. The latter has a capi- tal of $150,000, and a surplus of $187,990.
The newspaper press is represented by the Times and Expositor, an afternoon daily and weekly Republican paper; the Press, estab- lished in 1873, by Win. A. Whitney, daily and weekly, independent in politics; the Journal, a weekly Democratic paper, and the Anzeiger, a German publication.
Adrian has the best steam fire department in the State, outside of Detroit. A sufficient supply of water is procured from wells and cisterns. The city is lighted with gas.
The lack of railroad competition has, no doubt, been prejudicial to the growth and prosperity of Adrian, and a direct and inde- pendent connection with Detroit is a great desideratum. As it is, the city is wholly dependent upon the Lake Shore and Michi- gan Southern Road for an outlet, though it enjoys the advantage of being at the junction of two important branches, with the main line, viz ; the Detroit branch and the lack. son branch. But for the depression of rail- rord interests for a year or two past, the Detroit and Adrian road might have been completed. It is, however, only a question of time when it will be built.
