GRANDVILLE.
Grandville is a village of 700 inhabitants on Grand river, a few miles below Grand Rapids. It is in Wyoming township, Kent county, and is a station on both the Grand Rapids branch of the C. & M. I. S. R. R. and the Kalamazoo division of the L. S. & M. S. R. R., being in each case 6 miles from Grand Rapids. Buck creek affords water power. Two companies operate plaster beds at this point and a flouring mill and a stave and barrel factory complete the list of manufacturing interests. There are Congre- gational, Dutch Reformed and Methodist churches and the usual complement of schools, hotels, etc. Plaster, staves, heading, barrels and flour are shipped. Express, American. C. R. R., 65 miles west of Detroit and 10 east of Jackson. It is in Grass Lake town- ship, in the eastern part of Jackson county, in a level country, well settled and improved. Wheat and wool are the staple products of the neighborhood. A large flouring mill has been erected lately and flour, wheat, wool, pork and live stock constitute the leading articles of shipment. Grass Lake has three churches, Methodist, Baptist and Congregational, all handsome buildings. The place was first settled in 1829 and was incorporated as a village in 1871.
