FLORENCE,
A postoffice and railway station on the Kalamazoo division of the L. S. & M. S. R. R., about midway between Constantine and Three Rivers. There is no village. The office is in the town of Florence, St. Joseph county. Wheat is the leading article of shipment. C. J. Howard, postmaster.
FLOWER CREEK,
A postoffice in Clay Banks township, in the southwest corner of Oceana county. Dis- tance south from Hart, the county town, 22 miles, and northwest from Montague, its usual shipping station on the C. & M. L. S. R. R., to miles. It has a tri-weekly mail. Adam Huston, postmaster.
FLOWERFIELD,
A village of 200 inhabitants in Flowerfield township, in the northern edge of St. Joseph county. It is on the north branch of Rock river, a tributary of the St. Joseph, and is 144 miles west of Flowerfield station, on the Kalamazoo division of the L. S. & M. S. R. R. It was settled about IS30. The surrounding country comprises prairie land, burr oak plains, and heavy timber. The products embrace all kinds of grain with abundant fruit. The manufactures are con- fined to flour, grain cradles, wagons and cider vinegar. It has two church organiza- tions and a flourishing union school. Flower- field has a daily mail. FLUSHING.
Flushing is a thriving village in Flushing township, Genesce county. It is situated on the Flint river, 10 miles northeast of the city of Flint. The river here affords abun- dance of water power, which has been in proved to some extent. The surrounding country is fertile, and produces wheat, com, oats, barley, potatoes, etc. Flour, lumber, shingles and rakes are shipped. There are in the vicinity a number of quarries of ex- cellent building stone, the beauty and utility of which will in time bring it into very gen- eral use. A fine specimen of it can be seen in the Episcopal church at Flint. Builders will do well to visit Flushing before deciding on their material. The manufactories in- clude a grist mill, a foundry, 2 saw mills, an ashery, a rake factory, two cider mills, etc. There are three churches and excellent schools in the place. Population about 1.000. There is a daily mail to Flint. Mrs. Mary M. Hills, postmistress.

FORD RIVER.
A lumber village in Escanaba township. Delta county, 7 miles southwest of Escanaba
village, its nearest railroad point. It is near the shore of Green bay, is owned by the Ford River Lumber Company, and contains between 300 aud 400 inhabitants. It has a daily mail. J. D. Ross, postinaster.
FOREST CITY.
A postoffice in the town of Greenwood, in the extreme southeast corner of Oceana county. It is 412 miles west of Fremont Center, on the Muskegon & Big Rapids R. R., and is in a good farming country. It has a weekly mail. H. D. Clark, postmaster.
FOREST GROVE,
A postoffice in the southeastern part of Ottawa county, 572 miles south of Hudson- ville, on the Grand Rapids branch of the C. & M. I. S. R. R. It has a semi-weekly mail. John Tiesinga, postmaster.

FORESTVILLE.
Forestville, a place of 150 population, is located in the town of Delaware, Sanilac county, on the shore of lake Huron, 28 miles above Lexington, and 110 from De- troit. The country back from the lake shore is level and comprises good land. L.um- ber, shingles, wood, lath, posts, wheat, bar- ley, hay and fish are shipped from this point. It has a daily mail. FORK.
A postoffice in the town of Fork, in the northeast corner of Mecosta county. It is on the Chippewa river, in a hardwood and hemlock country. It has a weekly mail. Wni. Creevy, postmaster.
FORRESTER.
- Forrester is a place of about 300 inhabitants on the shore of Lake Huron, in Forrester township, Sanilac county, It 17 miles above Lexington, and about 100 miles from De- troit. Port Huron, 40 miles distant is its nearest approach by rail. The place was first settled about 1850, and for many years was an important himbering point, but the pine is now mostly exhausted. The country back possesses good soil, but is not much im- proved. Hay. wheat, wood, ports, hoops, shingles etc., form the leading shipments. Forrester has a Methodist Episcopal church, and a good school house. Telegraph, West- ern Union. Express, McClure & Co.'s. It has a daily mail. Geo. II. Farmer, post- inaster.

FORT GRATIOT.
A village of 900 inhabitants, at the foot of lake Huron, one mile above Port Huron. It is in Fort Gratiot township, St. Clair county, 63 miles northeast of Detroit. It takes its name from a military post formerly existing here, and derives its importance from being the point at which the traffic of the Grand Trunk railway crosses the St. Clair river.
