Financil difficulties and his fail- ure to stage' a business comeback led Lee Patterson, 46, operator of an oll station and a former vice presi- dent of the Houk Lumber company, to take his, own life by drinking rofron at his home. 847 South ave- nue, about 5 o'clock yesterday morn- ing.

Investigation by Dr. Murray C. Stone, coroner, caused that official to pronounce the death suicide. No Inquest will be held.


Body on Floor


Mr. Patterson was found on the floor of his bedroom, near his bed. by his wife and several neighbors who were called In when Mrs. Pat- terson found her husband's door locked. The polson container was found on the floor nearby and Mr. Patterson's lips, chin and chest were badly burned by the polson which had been spilled over them.


Mrs. Patterson sald she could give no reason for her husband's destre to end his life other than "he was failing to make a comeback in business."

A FINAL examination of the viscera of Delmer and Elmer Reppy. 3-year-old twin sons of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Reppy, who died suddenly . November 3 while visiting in the Ozarks at Cube, Ma, disclosed that thetr : deaths caused by bacterial food poisoning. The particular food was not do- termined.


- Dr. R. B. H. Gradwohl, path- ologist who conducted the second examination, reported to:the coro- ner that the viscera contained no traces of poison except those .in- dicative of unfit food. A brother and a sister of the Twins also be- came 111, but recovered.

"came to his death by gun- shot wounda by party or partles un- known," a coroner's Jury at Bolivar derided Saturday afternoon.

The suicide theory was generally Accepted by officer who Investigated The case. The suspicion that it might have been a case of murder instead of self-Inflicted death persisted. how- ever. and resulted in the Inquest conducted by Polk County Coroner 8. B. Hutcheson And in the open verdict of the jury.


Didn't Ree Men Leave .


First to testify were Mr. and Mrs. Matt Campbell. near whose farm rome on the Dunnegan-Fair Play : bad the dead men waa found by Fred Harmon, an. employe of the Campbella. Contrary to early reports, Mra .. Campbell testified that she did not ace a group of men moving away from the dead man's abandoned automobile about 9 o'clock Monday morning. after she had heard shots fired.


Mr. and Mro. Lee Largent of Hu- maneville, with whom Rook had re- cently made hla home. testified they knew of no reason for the. man to commit autcide. He always acemed cheerful, they aald. Mr. Largent Identified the bloodatalned gun found near the body as having belonged to Rook.


Others who teallfled were Claude Manual and - O: O.» Vannoy. other farmera who live near the scene of the shooting. Manual said, he had prepared a cup of coffee Sunday night at Rook's request and had taken it to the minn as he worked on his stalled automobile in the road nearby. E. A. Onlyan. Fair Play ga- rage man who had been called to assist Rook, had found the car aban- doned and had returned to Fair Play without seeing the owner.
