Former Engineer For Railroad Here Dies in Kansas City


John Monaghan, 86, a resident of Springfield for many years during which time he was an engineer for the Frisco railroad, died in Kansas City late yesterday following an ex- tended illness.


Mr. Monaghan served the Frisco on the Bolivar branch before it was extended northmand in through connection between Spring. field and Kansas City. He then took charge of a switch engine in the south yards here and held this po- sition until he reagned some 20 year ago.

Moberly married Sarah Jane Sal- ¡yer, his stenographer. two weeks. Ago. She was with him. when. rr- ! turning to their home at Houston. he stopped the car and took his ! 15-gauge shotgun and fled into the woods, where he shot himself.


DIVIDES PROPERTY


Before he died, Moberly ordered that his property be divided among his three children-all girls-whom he left when he deserted the first wife.


Forrest Duniven, superintendent of schools at Raymondville, an old friend, was one of the first to reach Moberly,"where he lay in the woods with a wound in hla side. The law- yer confided that worry over his domestic troubles and his children caused him to shoot himself.

He died Sunday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. K. M. Salyer. parents of his second wife. The sec- ond wife, after completing a course at a Springfield biriness college, be- came Moberly's stenographer.

He is survived by a brother, John Moberly, prosecuting attorney of Shannon county: Miss Mable Mob- erly, a member of the faculty of the State Teachers' college here: an- other sister, Mary, who formerly taught in the Springfield schools. and several brothers living in the west.


SIXTIETH · ANNIVERSARY IS OBSERVED BY COUPLE


The sixtieth wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Tom B. Turner, 85 And 83 years old, respectively. was celebrated Sunday . by more than 100 relatives and friends at the farm home of the aged couple In Webster county on the James river, about 10 miles south of Marshfield.


It was to this farm home that young Tom Turner took his bride, Thena, just 60 years ago. Only four acres of the present large tract had been cleared then.


Mr. Turner is one of the six sons of Denny Turner, who came to Mis- souri from Tennessee in 1838. All served in the ' confederate army. Tom was married on December 9, 1866, after returning from the war. The Reverend James P. Bridewell performed the ceremony.

He la survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ella Lang and Mrs. Nena McGill, both of Kansas City. Herman H. Lohmeyer will have charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Dr. J. 8. Tillery, 65. of 1362 Benton avenue, who died Sunday afternoon, will be held at 2 o'clock th !. afternoon of the . W. Klingner fu- meral chapel. Docler Tillery was a practic- Ing physician in Springfield 35 years. For 201 vears he had an office on Commercial altert over the Morton Brothers Drug More Ductor Tillery was born and read- ed at Liberiy. Mo. After obtaining his medical training he came to Springfield. Until 13 years ago he operated & drug store on Commercial street and since that time had devoted his entire time to the practice of hils profession. He is survived by his widow. Mr's" Stella Tillery: a son. Flody Tillers, of the home Address; two daughters, Mr. F. J. Norstrom, of Dallas. Tev. and Misa Juanita Tillery of the home address: and a sister. Mrs. Frankie Ingram And brother. Lou Tillery. both of Springfield. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery. The Reverend H. A. Wood will be in charge of the funeral services.

Impressive Rites Held for Nelson At Marshfield


One of the largest and most im- pressive funeral services ever con- ducted in Marshfield was that held in ' the"Methodist church there at 3:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon for Roy Nelson, considered the leading canner of the Osarks, who died in a hospital here last week following an iliness of 'heart disease.


The rites were in charge of the Reverend R. 8. Kendell, pastor of the Marshfield church, of which Mr. Nelson was one of the most devout members. Mr. Kendell was assisted by the Reverend Alonzo Patterson, pastor of the Methodist church, South, of Marshfield .. by the Reverend A. D. Ball of St. Louis, a former pastor of Mr. Nel- son's church. and other visiting ministers.


Miss Bessie Bloomer, organist at the Grace Methodist church here. and & schoolmate of. Mrs. Nelson. a Marshfield male quartet furnish- ed special music.
