The accident was not discovered until ball a bom after #

Shared Coroner's Odios Dr. Murray O. Blant: . Ortohi county coroner, who shared offices in the Medios! Arts buliding with Doctor Cantrell, was the first- per- son to recognise the young dentist when he came upon the body pinned ... . it WictAngl usuel a wesuc, ou yards down the railroad track. The coroner had been called to

the scene immediately after ofti- cera had traced the strewn wreck- age to where the car lay.
Both Shouse and Daughtrey, whc was found lying by the side of the wrecked car, were consalons. when. found and were rushed to Spring- field Baptist hospital in & Stame ambulance, but Shouse died a short time later.
The members of the train crew were unaware of any accident uoti they reached Rogersville, when they dlecovered a hole which had been torn in the side of the freight car struck by the automobile.
Falls From Trestie .
The auto, & Studebaker "Pred- dent" model sedan, apparently bad I been caught up by the freight car . and dragged along the right-of- wny until the train passed over a -- small trestle, where it fell into the ! stream bed below of its own weight.
When the automobile became dis- lodged, the freight car was de- railed, but righted itself when it passed a switch running from the main line to the Springfield stock- -
yards nearby.
The exact time of the accident is not known, but since the freight train left the yards here not far . behind the Kansas City-Florida spe- cial passenger train at 12:35 o'clock. It Is belleved the crash must have occurred about 1:15. The train operator at. the South junction, a I tower located just west of Glen -. stone road, reported that & train passed him about 2:07 a. m. how -; ever, although this was almost . half hour after the call had been received at the central police sta- tion.
No Witnesses Found
Investigation failed to disclose any 1 eye-witness to the tragedy Daught - rey was unable to talk todav, al- though he is expected to recover. An unidentified hiker reported to Doc- { tor Stone that he had been sleep- Ing by the side of the road near the. crossing and that he had heard the train whistle and a noise as if of a : collision. but he said he did not in- vestigate.
A high bank along the railroad right-of-way just west of the Glen- stone road crossing partlaily od-' sures an approaching train from the view of a motoris: going se !! the direcuon in which the Shouse car was traveling.
Marks on the parement Indicated that Shouse had applied his brakes : suddenly and that the car skidded About 100 feet on the pavement be- fore it crashed Into the train. The fact that the automobile struck the fifth car from the engine indicated
that the driver probably saw the train when it was too late to stop. The fact that Shouse was not familiar with the road made the crossing doubly dangerous.
Their Chests Crushed
It is believed that Cantrell was riding in the front seat with Shouse. and that Daghtrey was riding in the back seat. When the car crashed. . windshield, and onto the pavement at the crossing. Daughtry fell clear of the auto as It hung over ~~ trestle just before it broke loone: from the freight car. He was iving on the bank of the small creek when found. .
Cantrell's death was caused by A - crushed chest. according to Doctor Stone. His Injuries also inci ded both legs broken and a deep sea.p wound and cuts about the face and head.
Shouse also austained & crushed cheat, but a fractured skull is be -! Heved to have finally caused his death. His lower Jaw was also - broken and his left leg broken at the knee.

First information of the accident was from a young Lebanon man who stopped at the Jess 8mith ham- .
