Ozarks Region Loses Man Most. Instrumental in De- veloping Great Industry Throughout District -

WITH the death . of Roy Nelson. 46. of Marshfield In the Burge hospital here yesterday morning Inllowing an tilness of heart disease. the canning industry of this region lost the man most instrumental in developing it from a losing propo- aition Into one of the major inter- ests of Ozarks agriculture.

: -

'Mr."Nelson entered the canning business nearly a quarter of a cen- tury ago. after he had finished a fall term at Drury college here. From school he returned to his home town of Marshfield and bought an interest in a canning factory that had just been started. ---

EXPANSION RAPID

Although the factory had been - operating several years with disap- pointing results. consistent progress became apparent after Mr. Nelson took charge of its affairs." Con- tinued expansion has been the record of the business until now 'the Nelson canneries may be found almost any place in the Ozarks.

His success is credited largely by his frienda to the fair and generous manner in which he conducted. his. business and the big-hearted way he treated the growers from whom he obtained tomatoes. During good . years for the canneries. he would nnt hold to the contract prices agreed to by the growers at the time of pinto but would allow them to. benefit from the high prices along with his interests.

HERE TWO WEEKS

Although Mr. Nelson had been in

falling health for several years he ,had been in the hospital- here for only about two and a half weeks. - He had never spent much time out -.: aide of the Ozarks. In recent years he had been sent by his physicians to California and Florida, but each time he found it almost impossible .: to stay more than two weeks. "

His fortune is estimated at half million dollars. He left no will.
