BENJAMIN3 [9] (Jonathan2, Thomas1), was m , by Mr. Crockett. to Polly Shaw, dan. of Jolin (,ce), Dee. 30, 1806 (t. r.) ; settled first with his father ; soon after moved to the Blake farm (Lot No. 39, 2d Div.), still occupied (1877) by his son [85]. He had united with the 1st Baptist Church, but commenced " preaching a free salvation," much to the grief of the church fathers, as then felt, at the age of 24.

. He organized the Christinu Baptist Church at the Chapel (see Sketch), continuing there several years. His lubors being followed by u reform- tion at Salisbury Village (now Franklin), he also organized the Chris- tian Church there, and afterwards churches or societies at Hill Centre. Danbury, Andover, and Warner. Ile is said to have baptized about 1,000 persons in various powerful revivals of religion. Still residing in Sanbornton, he represented this town in the General Court, 1841- 42. He was one of the marked men of his day, both in and out of his native town ; was sick of slow consumption for a year and a half, his health having been feeble at times for years previously, and he longed to rest in Jesus. Rev. Ebenezer Fiske, from New Hampton, preached his funeral sermon, and remarked that " his brother Calley had done the work of two men in preaching the Gospel." He d. May 29, 1854 (5), ac. 69-5. She d. Jan. 31, 1877, in her 89th year (ac. 92?). Children :

No. 8, which had been mortgaged to the Exeter Academy, and there res'd. till his death, Dec. 23, 1869, ae. 80-8 (79, gravestone). She d. Sept. 28, 1861, ac. 64-4. The progenitor of one of these was :

Thomas, whence came unknown (perhaps from Stratham) ; was the first settler ou the middle portion of Lot No. 73, Ist Div, south of the Deacon Chase, present Perley place, afterwards occupied by Webster, probably Site No. 1 (see Map) ; he also lived near the Turkey Bridge ; was one of the earliest and best carpenters in town, and is thought to have d. on one of his places above named, Feb., 1790. His widow d. Oct. 18, 1797. Children :
