Dec. 25, 1788), when he returned to Sanbornton, worked at his trade ten years, succeeded his father as a farmer on the home place till his wife's death, Dec. 30, 1865, ae. 77, and then made it his home with his daughter, till his own death, Feb. 5, 1872, ae. 82-6. IIc united with a Baptist Church in Salem, at the age of 20, and maintained a consistent character through lite. lle cast his vote in Sanbornton for 60 successive years, and was a man of rare intelligence, candor, and amiability, to whom the writer is much indebted for items in the earlier history of the Hersey family. llis memory of past events was vivid, and in his powers of expression he was clear and forcible. 148. GEORGE EVERETT K., b. Sept. 1, 1817; graduated at the New lamp- ton Academical Institution, and took his medical degree in New York City, Is71, having previously studied with Dr. Lyman B. Hlow, of Manchester. Same year commenced practice in M., where continuing (1877) with growing reputation. lle m. Sarah, dau. of Dr. E. M. Tubbs, of Mauchester, Jan. 5, 1872. lle d. after a short illness of diphtheria, in Manchester, Jan. 8, IS78, ac. 30-4, and hence we must now add, with sadness at its brevity, that probably no other young man from our town has had a more brilliant career, profession- ally. fle obtained the place of resident physician ut the Bellevue Hospital, N. Y., for some time after graduation, there being 75 applicants for the posi- tiou, in which he evinced remarkable aptitude for cases of heart disease, and was the favorite assistant of Prof. Loomis. His practice in Manchester had become large, and was constantly increasing. As a medical expert, he was an authority in the courts. " His unquenchable thirst for knowledge, inde- fatigable spirit, unbounded industry, and irresistible determination of pur- pose, gave him a very high rauk in his profession," while " personally he was genial, generous, snuny, and universally popular." He was a prominent mem- ber of the New Hampshire and Manchester Medical Societies; clerk aud sur- geou, for some years, of the " Amoskeag Veterans "; and his valuable papers upon the use of " Plastic Splints," for broken limbs, were published in pam- philet form by the State Medical Society, and widely circulated throughout the Union.
