IIe has siuce received patents ou a rifle aud a torpedo, which latter has been adopted by the United States government. Ifis headquarters are now (1876- 80) in Washington, D. C. He m .. 100. CYRUS3 [58] (Cole2, Cole1), was a physician in New York City for more than forty years, " practising with unremitting zeal and acceptability " till the last. He m., Ist, Maria L. Child, of Portland, Me., Sept. 25. 1834, who was b. March 21, 1810, and d. Sept. 12, 1849, ae. 39-6 ; m., 2d, Caroline E. Coles, of New York City, Sept. 2, 1852 ; last residence at Bloomfield, N. J., whither he was return- ing, at 5 o'clock r. M., Sept. 20, 1875, when, at Iloboken, N. J., attempting to get upon the train while in motion, Le slipped, lost his hold, and was ernshed by the rolling wheels, causing his death in a few minutes, in his 69th year. Dr. Weeks received his diploma in medi- eine from Harvard University, and soon after commenced in New York. He was a contributor to the New Yorker, and an intimate friend of IIon. Horace Greeley's ; was appointed to the city medical board for sanitary protection, and was an active member of the New York Academy of Medicine until his death. Children :

Nov. 22, 1837; Is also a physician ; served in the navy as assistant or chief surgeon on four or five government vessels; was disabled at the sinking of the urst " Monitor"; was afterwards employed in the army as surgeon, with the rank of major, and still (1872 and later) in the service of the government. at Washington, D. C. He is now (1879) practising in his father's ofllee in New York. Ilis plans devised for the g vernment of the Indians, while secretary of the New York Indian Commission, have been largely commended and adopted, as he bad previously. while surgeon, spent several years among them. lle was the writer of the article in the Atlantic Monthly for March, 1863, entitled "The Last Cruise of the Monitor."
