1. JOHN' MACE came from Buxton, Me., not long before his marriage to Mrs. Nancy Lane, widow of Capt. Joshua (s-e p. 446 [139]), April 20, 1820 (Bodwell). He continned at her residence, in this town ; was a cabinet-maker, employed by the Ingalls Brothers, at the Square, and by Clark at the Tin Corner, and here d., of consumption, June 24, 1840. She d. in Concord, April 10, 1858, ae. 65-6. Children :

Hle rem. from Newbury about 1776, and settled in Sanbornton with his son [16], where now his grandson [18]. His wife was Rebecca -, b. 1732, and d., in this town, March 10, 1818, ae. 86. Hle d. 8. MOSES [12], b Oct. 29, 1752.
9. HuGu, b. Aug. 31, 1756; commeneed the practice of medicine here iu 1777, being the first physician that settled in the town. He was uum., and seems to have settled and chiefly res'd. with his older brother [12]. on the place now occupied by Major D. C. Clough (Calef [III]), but being of au enterprising turn of mind, he bought small parcels of land, bidding them off for taxes, ou Lot No. 79, Ist Div., and iu other parts of town. Ife finally fixed upon a site for his house, nearer the Square, on the side of the Gulf Hill, Lot No. 37, Ist Div. (see Sites), where he had erected the fraine of his dwelling-house (now J. B. Osgood's), before the failure of his health. "He continued to practise with success, highly esteemed and beloved by all who knew him, until 1781, when he was obliged to quit his business ou account of ill health"; returned to Newbury, and there d., probably, in 1782, ac 26. "He was well educated, skilful in practice, quick of apprehension, and of sound and discriminating judgment, but a premature death cut short a life which bid fair for extensive usefulness." (Dr. J. James Creighton, in New Market, where she d., Nov. 20, 187G, ac. 96-8, but was buried beside her husband. in this town.

Wecki, June 9. 1814 (Crockett.). She was the dau. of Chase Weeks (ser), and d. March 4, 1825, of consumption, ac. 33-5. He m., 2d, Mrs. Sally (Clough) Hazelton, of Canterbury, March, 1826, who was the dau. of Nehemiah Clough (sre p 159 [6]), and d. of dropsy, April 15, 1813, in her 57th year. He was a man of remarkable firmness and Integrity, a justice of the peace, and for many years a prominent member of the Ist Baptist Society. The uoble farm of his father's is now held (1880) by his heir aud successor, Mr. David C. Clough, on the east side of which is the original cemetery, with well-preserved moun- meuts of four generations iu his family name, an unusual thing for Sanborn- ton. Ile d. April 3, 1834, ac. 64-5. They professed religion together after a few years of married life, and were baptized by Rev. David Fisk. Their children, who grew up, all became Christians before they left home, and led, or are leading, npright and successful lives. She Was "lovely and beloved by all who knew her."
