May 5. 1823, of consumption, and he was m., 2d, to Nancy Eastman, dan. of Thomas (see p. 251 [37]), Sept. 18, 1823, by the same. He lived on the Benjamin Colby farm after 1829, now called the Leavitt place (Lot No. 75, Ist Div. ), and there d., of small-pox, Feb. 7, 1855, ac. 59-2. "Beloved bus- band and father." " Therefore be ye also ready ; for in such an hour as ye think not, the Son of Man cometh." Matt. xxiv. 44. She (2d wife) there d., Nov. 15, 1858, in her 58th year. "An affectionate inother."

THE LORD FAMILY,


"Lowd" being also found as the spelling in some generations. Several original ancestors are noted ; among them, Nathaniel, of Kit- tery, Me , freeman, 1652, the probable father of Samuel, mentioned in Sullivan's " Ilistory of Maine," from whom are descended Hon. Jolin, and his more distinguished son, the late President Nathan Lord, D. D., of Dartmouth College. Twenty-four of the name had grad. at New England College in 1821, eighteen at Yale, and the number has since been considerably increased, especially at Dartmouth. The pro- genitor of Lord, and other families in Saubornton, was :

ELIPHALET6 (-5 (?), John4, Thomas3, Robert2, Robert1), was probably born in Exeter, his father being known to have been one of the sixteen children of John [+] ; is also said to have served in the Revolutionary war, though, in that case, his wife and known consin, Hannah Lord [6], must have been several years his junior ; may have settled temporarily in Exeter, but soon after in Deerfield, whence he followed his brother-in-law, John [26]. to this town ; settled, in the hatting business, at the present Shaker Bridge, and there d., Aug. 5, 1826. Another account makes him to have moved down East, whence he must have returned. She lived and d., with her son, Eliphalet, Jr., at Shaker Bridge. Of their twelve children, four, dying young, are not here given :


18. JAMES, m. Marcia Durgin, dan. of Elijah (sec p. 239 [107]), Dec. +, 1828 (Crockett) ; lived near Shaker Bridge, as a stone-mason. She d. at Stoneham, and he now res. (1877) at South Reading, Mass. Ten children (seven sons).

30. CYRUS WOODRUFF, b. Nov. 14, 1819; m. Lydia Thurstou Evans, of Gilmanton, dan. of John, Jr., and Mehitable (Thurston) Evans, Nov. 17, 1842, in Sanbornton (Bodwell). She was b. Oct. 22, 1822. He was a stone-worker; lived at Shaker Bridge - the last of his family there - till about 1856, where his three oldest children were b .; was residing with his sou [3], in North- ileld, near Tilton (1877). Children : - 1. Frances Anua, b. Sept. 5, 1843. 2. George Washington, b April 24, 1847; was a druggist (1870-77), in West Franklin ; is now (1880) in company with his brother [3]. He m. Mary Eliz- abeth Belle Johuson, of Northfield, Sept. 13, 1870. 3. Albert Cyrus, b. July 30, 1852; is a watelimaker and jeweller iu Tilton, also an extensive manufac- turer of spectacle lenses (1878-80), a new block having beeu erected for that business, and for two stores, by the Lord Brothers.
