522. NATHANIEL Thamnek, 2d, b Feb 2, 1818; m. Lucretla Brown, Oet. 27, 1842, who was b. Oct. 4, 1821, in Concord, dan. of Orlando Brown, Esq. Ile had obtained his education at the "Instructor's School," under Master Tyler, in Franklin, and at Pembroke Academy, gradna Ing there in 1838. Commenced in carlier ilfe an apprenticeship at the Smithville factory store; was clerk in Concord, 1838-42, ten years lu trade at West Concord, and in 1832 built hils store lu Franklin, near the spot of his grandfather's first settle- ment, where, as a merchant for twenty-one years, he " was methodical, accu- rate, aud honorable, commanding the Impllelt confidence of all," and cujoying marked snecess. He was also the leading spirit of the Franklin Savings Bank, and its treasurer from its foundation, In 1870, to the time of hils fatal sickness. Ile was representative from Franklin 1855-56; sheriff of the county and bauk commissioner ; an unblemished Christlau of the Frauklin Congregational Church from early manhood, and superintendent of its Sabbath school. He was a lover of the past, well versed In ancestral and local history. and very favor- able to the prosecution of this enterprise of the Sauboruton annals. " His last days were full of the e nsolations of the faith that had fashioned and adorned his life. He m., 3d, Abigail M. Sanborn [351], Ang. 6, 1834. Being a carpenter and joiner, he has long been favor- ably known in town as " Joiner John," working at his trade mostly in Sanbornton and vicinity till about 1865. IIe lived, on first settling here, near the present Bay meeting-house, but lastly, for sixty-nine years (after 1811), on the upper half (central portion) of the 2d Div., School Lot, No. 20, where he d., laden with years and honors, Feb. 25, 1879, ae. 92.
