WAGGONER, BARSE, KEEPS, GIBSON, BLEECKER
Who was the lady with these five names ?
Further help very much needed in determining the identity of the apparently much married 2nd wife of my great great grand- father, Joseph Waggoner, 1759- 1848, the Am. Rev. pensioner. Mrs. Carol W. Bussing of . the Montgomery County Dept. of His- tory and Archives . located the Waggoner marriage record in the Ref. Prot. Dutch Church of Her- kimer, Herkimer county, N. Y. I quote:
"Septber 13, 1835, married in the house of Andrew Huyck, gro- cer in the Village of Herkimer, the widow(er) Joseph Waggoner to the widow of Archy Keeps de- ceased, Catharine Barse likewise of Fortplain Montgomery County in the present of many witnesses & part: Harvey Huyck grocer & his wife . . . Barse and Mother and Levi Welch."
Was Barse Catharine's maiden name or was she married to ... Barse before her marriage to Ar- chy Keeps ?
Harvey Huyck above made affi- davit, June 3, 1853, in connection with said Catharine Barse Keeps Waggoner's application for pen- sion (see Enterprise and News, April 14, 1949), that "Joseph Waggoner and Catharine Gibson, both of the Village of Fort Plain, County of Montgomery and State aforesaid, were married at my res- idence, and in the presence of my family, on the 13th day of Sep- tember 1835 ,by the Rev. Mr. Spinner ,a duly authorizezd cler- gyman, and I saw them married." Note that this statement agrees with the marriage in all details except Catharine's surname, here- in given as "Gibson." Was Gibson Catharine's maiden name or the name of a former husband?
W. P. Webster in his "Johan Peter Wagner and Descendants," p. 10 says that Joseph Wagner (Waggoner) married 2nd Mrs. Bleecker, mother of William
Bleecker. The '1855 'census (taken June 7) of the Town of Minden, Montgomery Co., N. Y., sent me by Mrs. Bussing, confirms Web- ster's statement. . Therein Cath- arine Waggoner age 81 (born Her- kimer Co.) is given as "mother" of William E. Bleecker, age 40, bookkeeper, born in Montgomery Co. This would mean that Cath- arine Barse Keeps Gibson Wag- goner was Mrs. Bleecker in ca. 1815 at the time of the birth of son William E. Bleecker. Figuring from age 81 in said 1855 census, Catharine would have been born ca. 1774 in Herkimer Co.
How many husbands did Cathar- ine have? In what order? The above records show conclusively 3 marriages, to .... Bleecker by or before 1815, to Archy Keeps, to Joseph Waggoner in 1835, when she was about age 61. What is the of har nomes RareA

The Flower Family
of
Galnesville, Wyoming County, New York
Before 1800, Ithuriel 4 Flower brought his family to Gainesville, N. Y. and established his home there. He was son of Nathanfel 3 Flower (John 2, Lamrock 1) and Hannah Bradford (Steele) Flower of New Hartford, Conn. Baptized there June 18, 1752 (West Hartford First Church Re- cords); died Gainesville, '1828. He" married Mehitabie. Broughton at New Hartford, Dec .: 10, 1782 born there 1760; died Gaineesville, 1832. Her parentage wanted.
Ithuriei Flower rendered dis- tinguished service in the Revolu- tion and was a descendant of Wii- liam Bradford, Mayflower passen- ger and Governor of Plymouth Colony.
In 1790, an Ithuel Flower was enumerated in Granville, Wash- ington county, N. Y., with a fam- ily of 1-3-2, unless Ithuel was. an- other man or Ithuriei's 'residence was mistaken for Gainesville, Wy- oming county, N. Y.

Aprii 14, 1949), that "Joseph
Waggoner and Catharine Gibson, both of the Village of Fort Piain, County of Montgomery and State aforesaid, were married at my res- idence, and in the presence of my family, on the 13th day of Sep- tember 1835 ,by the Rev. Mr. Spinner ,a duiy authorizezd cier- gyman, and I saw them marrled." Note that this statement agrees with the marriage in ail details except Catharine's surname, here- in given as "Gibson." Was Gibson Catharine's maiden name or the name of a former husband ?
W. P. Webster in his "Johan Peter Wagner and Descendants," p. 10 says that Joseph Wagner (Waggoner) married 2nd Mrs. Bleecker, mother of William Bleecker. The '1855 "census (taken June 7) of the Town of Minden, Montgomery Co., N. Bleecker in ca.' 1815 at the time of the birth of son Willlam E. Bieecker. Figuring from age 81 in said 1855 census, Catharine would have been born ca. 1774 in Herkimer Co.
How many husbands did Cathar- fine have? In what order? The above records show conclusively 13 marriages, to .. . Bleecker by or before 1815, to Archy Keeps, to Joseph Waggoner in 1835, when she was about age 61. What is the significance of her names Barse and Gibson ? Her marriage records Bleecker and Archy to Keeps wanted, also Herkimer Co. Barse data.
I shaii appreciate any light that anyone can throw on this enigma. Marie Lyie,
