Wagner

Edgar O. Wagner, son of above Peter J. 4 Wagner and 2nd wife Margaret Oothout, was born in Fort Plain, N. Y., ca. 1842 and died either in N. J. or Brooklyn, N. Y. (which ?), when ? In one of his father's obituaries, he is given as "of New Jersey," i.e., in 1884. An "E. O. Wagner, 258 Clermont ! Av., Brooklyn, N. Y.," is given in } W. P. Webster's list of those who ordered copies of his articles on the Wagner Genealogy which was pub. in the Fort Plain Standard in 1900. Is this E. O. and the Ed- gar O. under the same consider- ation the same? Did he marry and have children ?

Wood, Wagner

Gezena 5 Wagner, dau. of fore- going Hon. Peter J. 4 Wagner and 2nd wife Margaret Oothout, was born in Fort Plain, N. Y., ca. 1844 and died where? (was it Fort Plain ?) ca. 1874. She mar, where ? He mar. 2nd, where ? 1839 (mar. rec. wanted), Lydia's cousin, Mar- garet Oothout (Oathout). Webster says she was of Schnectady, but Frothingham has her father Ab- raham located on a farm near his bros. Jonas, Garrett and Volkert, when? Gearge C. Wood, whose dates, location, and parents are wanted. Was he a son of E. W. Wood of Fort Plain? And was he a member of the Font Plain Spring and Axel Co., operated by Wood, Smith & Co .? This plant was removed to Chicago Heights, Ill., who built a large store in the Town in 1894. Did George C. Wood and of Minden. Did this Abraham Oo- Gezena Wagner have children ? Neahr, Wagner thuot mar. - - Taylor? Figured from Margaret's age 49 in the 1860 Census of the Town of Minden, she was born ca. 1811 and died in Font Plain ca. 1872 (her bap. and death records wanted).

Peter J. Wagner had either 4 or 5 children: 1. Joseph Lansing. (Confirmation of my guess needed that he was son of the 1st wife Lydia and d. y.). 2. Edgar O., b.

married where? when ? M., J. Neahr, whose data is wanted. Did this marriage occur in Fort Plain ? They lived in Chicago. They had ca. 1842. 3. Gezena, b. ca. 1844. at least 1 .dau., Grace Neahr. Were 4. Caroline Virginia, b. ca. 1845. 5. there other children ? Further in- Cornelius Cuyler, b. ca. 1851., (Bap records of all wanted).

The above approximate dates

(To be continued)

Peter J. was the 1st president 1853, of the Board of Trustees of the Clinton, Liberal and Military Institute, formerly the Fort Plain Seminary and Collegiate Institute. He was present in Aug. 1882, then in his 88th year, at the ceremony of placing monuments on the sites of the original Font Plain fort built in 1776 and the Block Houses built in 1781. The latter he remember- ed seeing when he was a boy. Did he make an address?

Interesting to me is his signat- ure in my mother's autograph book which she, then 17, used on her 1880 trip to relatives in N. Y. St- ate. In it, he wrote "P. J. Wagner - 85 years old. Kind regards to Nephew Dewitt," my mother's father, DeWitt Riggs Wagner of Minneapolis, Minn., to which he 'removed from Detroit, Mich., in 1867.

Wagner, Oothout, Fox, Taylor (?) Above Peter J. 4 mar. 1st, where? when? Lydia Oothout (Oathout), b. where? perhaps 1 mi. west of Fort Plain, N. Y., where her father Jonas located In the Town of Minden, according to Frothingham. W. P. Webster says she was born in the new Pollock house. (Where was this?) She was b. ca. 1801 (her bap. rec. wanted) and died in Fort Plain, Oct. 20, 1837, a dau. of Jonas Oot- hout and Maria Fox (their anc. asked).

Caroline Virginia 5 Wagner, dau of fonegoing Hon. Peter J. 4 Wag- n'er and 2nd wife Margaret Oot- hout, was born in Fort Plain, N. Y., ca. 1845 and dled where ? (was it Chicago, Ill. ? ), when ? She

formation on Grace is wanted and descendants, if any ..

History of Wagner

Sent by Marie Lyle, Lyle

Heights, Paso Robles, Calif., Oct. 24, 1949,

The following deed of proper- ties made by Johan Jost or Joseph 3 Waggoner or Wagner (Johan Peter 2, 1) to his son John I., in 1838, mentions not only a pre- vious dead, ca. 1835,to said John I., but also a deed, date not given, to his son Peter J. From these statements and from said Joseph's will, dated 'April 19, 1848, deav- ing all his remaining real estate to his dau. Betsy Snell (wife of George I. of Palatine, N. Y.) I now believe that said Joseph deed- ed the greater part of his - land to his children before 1848, per- haps even other property to his dau. Betsy Snell, since the will (recently published in the Enter- prise 'and News) specifically states that the real estate he is leaving her is in appreciation of her care of him during his ill- nessa

.

If my assumption Is correct, there should be deeds extant, to the following children in addition to the aforementioned deeds to John I. and Peter J .; namely Cat- arina or Catherine (Waggoner) Webster (wife of Dr. Joshua) Elizabeth .or Betsey, (Waggoner) Snell (wife of George I.), Charles Wagner (mar. Catarina Waggoner his cousin), Johan Jost or Joseph Waggoner or Wagner, Jr., (mar. Minerva Riggs), and Maria (Wag- goner) Lintner (wife of George A.) Said Joseph May also have deed property to those of his grandchildren who had reached their majority in his lifetime. (I

have one such deed madeti his grandson Charles Wagner Web- ster dated Aug. 13, 1839).

I shall appreciate copies of any such deeds.

1838 Deed by Joseph and Cath- about at right angles to said arine Wagner to John I. Wagner The following copy is verbatim except for the paragraphing and the numbers I have assigned to the different pieces of property described. This I have done for easy reference to the deed in the queries following it.

Salid deed is among the papers in W. P. Webster's collection, It

is on a printed form called a "Common Warranty Deed" with spaces left to be filled in. This form was "printed and sold by Levi S. Backus at the Central Asylum, Canajoharie, N. Y." The deed is folded as df for fil- ing and on one of the outside folds is written:

(Signed) A J Comrie, Clerk. Location of Land's in Above Deed asked in determining to whether the lands described in the above deed were in a single strip extending from Font Plain Freysbush or whether 8 separate pieces of property are involved ?

The 18 acres described in par- cel (1) appearto have been in that part of thetown of Canajoharle which later, in 1849, was added to the town of Minden. Is this

correct ?

Were the 2 acres in parcel (2) including "the garden now occu- pied by John I.," in Freysbush or Fort Plain ?

Where in Minden were the 5 acres in parcel (3) which were near Dr. Shaw and which encom- passed "the New Burial ground ?" They were already in the posses-

sion of sald John I., except for that part which had previously been conveyed to Peter J. Wag-' ner (his brother). What cemetery was the said

"new burial

ground ?"
