Then be- ginning abruptly with 3 rods at W, and so continuing three rods to the ocean. The undersigned, Commossioners of Highways of the Town of East-Hampton, in the County of Suffolk and State of New York, having met at the house of David C. Barnes in the Village of Amagansett in said Town, to decide upon the alteration of a certain road leading from the west end of Amagansett Street or highway, nearly opposite to the house anciently of Jacob Schellinger, southerly to and through a valley called " Indian Well-Hollow " to a certain ancient highway which ran along the south ends of the " In- dian Well-Plain " lots. All the said Commissioners having been duly notified to attend this meeting of the Commissioners for the purpose of deliberating on the

subject of this order, and the consent in writing of Charles Miller and all other owners of lands taken for such alteration having been first had and obtained,


Do Hereby Order, That the line of the said road be, and the same is hereby so altered as to run as follows: To wit: The west line of the highway (the red line of the map), beginning at a certain stone (A on the map) which bears from a cedar tree standing in the east cor- ner of the door yard of Mary A. Schellinger S. 5} deg. E. dis. 2.15 ch. and which also stands in a line with the street fence of Benjamin Hedges, distant one ch. from the west corner of his lot as the fences now stand, and running thence S. 223 deg. E. 3.46 ch. to a stone (B on the map) at the said fence of Charles Miller, nearly opposite to the line fence between Benjamin Hedges and Thomas M. Edwards, or heirs of Isaac Barnes; then south 193 deg. E. partly through enclosed premi- ses of Charles Miller and through a certain willow tree in front of his premises 5.82 ch. to another stone (C on map) set opposite to angle in the highway line fence of Thomas M. Edwards and 75 links distant from said angle; then S. 25 deg. E. 32.04 ch. to a stone (D on the map) set opposite to and on a line with the south fence of Joshua B. Edwards' land and also op- posite to a stone (5 on the map) which is three rods easterly of D and marks the terminus of the east line of the highway. The intermediate distances of the last described line being C 1 to stone at north angle of " Plain-Way " highway, 5.41 ch. then 1, 2 to a point op- posite to a stone placed at the southwest corner of the land of said Thomas M. Edwards, and the supposed junction of an ancient highway; then 2 D three chains to the terminus of this survey. The east line of the

highway running straight from the street corner of Benjamin Hedges (3 on the map) to the angle in Thos. M. Edwards fence (4 on the map); then straight on the line of fence as it now stands and parallel with the west line of the highway to the stone at the terminus (5 on the map). And we do further order that the said highway be of the width of four rods at A, nar- rowing uniformly to three rods at B, and from B to D three rods wide. And it is further ordered that such parts of the present road as are not included in the above descriptions, be, and the same are hereby dis- continued and that this order and survey of said road under our direction, be filed in the office of the Town Clerk of East-Hampton, according to the statute in such case made and provided.

angle of my homestead as the fence now stands; the west line of the highway B-C, beginning at a stone at the rail fence (B on the map) and running S. 19} deg. E. 1.70 chains to a point under the great or double gates where it crosses the fence. The land thus taken in the alteration of said highway being a small tri- angle lying easterly of the west line of said altere 1 highway, and having a base on said west line 1.70 ch. and a perpendicular height of 0.10 ch. Now there- fore, know all men by these presents, that I, Charles H. Miller, for value received, do hereby release all claim to damages by reason of the altering and open- ing of the said highway, and hereby consent that the land aforesaid be taken for he purpose of the altera- tion of the said highway as aforesaid.

At the annual Town Meeting of the Town of East- Hampton, held at Clinton Academy, April 1st, 1879, Henry B. Tuthill, Esq., was chosen Chairman, and Joseph S. Osborne, Town Clerk, acted as clerk.


The annual report of the Supervisor was called for, read and accepted.


Resolved, That the Supervisor elect be, and is here- by authorized to borrow on the Supervisor's note, the sum of forty-five dollars to meet the deficiency of the last year.

Resolved, That the Overseers of the. Poor, be in- structed to borrow the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars on their note, to pay the existing indebtedness of the Overseers of the Poor.


Resolved, That the sum of seventeen hundred dol- lars be raised for the current expenses of the Over- seers of the Poor, for the ensuing year.


The report of the Clerk of the Town Trustees was called for, read and accepted.

Whereas application has been made in due form of law to the Commissioners of Highways of the Town of East-Hampton, that they would lay out and define the "Cranberry Hole" highway from the Highlands to Cranberry hole or further,


Now, Therefore, we, the Commissioners of High- ways of said town, all of said commissioners having been duly notified to attend and deliberate on the subject of this order,


Do Order, That said road be ascertained, described and entered of record in the office of the Town Clerk according to a survey which has been made under our direction, as follows: Beginning at a stone up- on the right side of the travelled road (1 on map), from which the center of Highland Rock bears (mag- netic meridan) N. 872 deg. E. 1.76 ch. distant, and . running thence N. 602 deg. E. 1.88 ch. to stone (2 on map), also on the right of the road, from which the center of said rock bears S. 8 deg. E. 88 ch. distant- station 2 is 24 links from a pine tree on the north of the road; thence N. 552 deg. E. 7.00 ch. to stone (3 on map); thence N. 632 deg. E. 2.70 ch. to stone (4 on map); thence N. 772 deg. E. 5.00 ch. to stone (5 on map); then East 4.50 ch. to stone (6 on map); thence N. 65 deg. E. 1.50 ch. to stone (7 on map); thence N. 46 deg. E. 5.00 ch. to stone (8 on map); from 8 the nearest top point of a split rock bears S. 172 deg. E. 62 links distant; thence from 8 N. 36 deg. E. 5.00 ch. to stone (9 on map); thence N. 491 deg. E. 4.50 ch. to stone (10 on map); thence S. 882 deg. E. 1.00 ch. to stone (11 on map); thence S. 714 deg. E. 3,90 ch, to

E. 2.32 ch. distant, and the chimney of Smith & Sleights' Oil Works bears N. 56 deg. 10 min. E.


And we do further order, that the line of this sur- vey (black line on map) be the centre of this high- way, and the width thereof shall be three rods throughout its entire length from 1 to 19.
