Whereas application has been made to the commis- soners of highways, of said town in due form of law by twelve reputable freeholders of said town, "That they would lay out a highway in said town com- mencing at a point between the houses of David D. Parsons and Isaac Edwards, on the cross highway leading from the Springs to the Accabonac highway on the northeast side of said cross highway, and end- ing at a place commonly called the landing, which said highway will pass through the enclosed lands of the said David D. Parsons and Isaac Edwards."


Now, therefore, we, the commissioners of highways of said town, all of said commissioners having been notified to attend and deliberate upon the subject of this application, having examined into the facts and

circumstances of the case and having become satisfied that said highway is necessary for the public conven- ience,


Do order that a highway be laid out in accordance with the aforesaid petition and entered of record in the Town Clerk's office of said town according to a survey which has been made by us as follows, viz: The center line of said highway beginning at a stake, marked A on the map (said stake bearing from the southeast corner of David D. Parson's house S. 41 de. grees E. dis. 3.83 chains, and from the northwest cor- ner of David D. Parsons barn S. 86 degrees E. dis. 2.55 chains), running N. 48} degrees E. dist 7.43 chains to a stake (marked B on the map) to the division line be- tween the said D. D. Parson's and I. Edwards', then N. 39 degrees E. dis. 4.50 chains through said Isaac Edwards' land to a rock at the edge of the Creek, be, ing the termination of said highway, and that said highway be three rods in width.


In witness whereof we have hereunto subscribed our names this 27th day of April, 1860.

the President's call for 300,000 men for three years, or the war, we do hereby offer the sum of $100 to each and every man who will volunteer, or has volunteered from our town under that call since July 2d, 1862.


Resolved 2nd- That a military committee of three be appointed, said committee to look after and supply the families of the volunteers.

Resolved 4th-That all persons volunteering or be- ing drafted are hereby exonerated from the tax.

Miller and Ezekiel Miller of the road to Georgica, is not approved by this meeting, and that the Trustees be directed to refund the purchase money for the said land and cause the old road to be opened as it has heretofore been from time immemor- ial.


Resolved, That there be no more common land sold. in said Town of East-Hampton during the present year.

Resolved 3d, That the committee be authorized to pay such proportion of the bounty of $300 to the re- cruits obtained from abroad, and such proportion for getting the same as may be in their judgment neces- sary.

holders in due form of law to the Commissioners of Highways of the said Town of East-Hampton, as fol- lows, to wit: "We, the undersigned persons, liable to be assessed for highway labor in said town, do hereby make application to you to lay out, define and record a highway from the highway which runneth westward through Wainscott street at a point near the school house at the west end of the village at Wainscott to run northwardly through the highway er common land until it intersects the highway which is the division line between the town of said East Hampton and Southampton.


The said open space being very wide, between the burying ground and mill, we the petitioners request that said Commissioners lay out said highway to the width of five rods, or such width as they in their wis- dom may deem expedient."


Now, therefore, we, the undersigned Commissioners of Highways of said Town of East-Hampton, all of said Commissioners having met and deliberated upon the subject of this order and examined the premises, facts and circumstances in this case, and having as certained that on the 18th day of March, 1698, at a town meeting of the said Town of East-Hampton, " It was ordered by a major vote that there should be a highway for common passing up Wainscott hollow flanking on the west side or end of Wainscott woods clear from Wainscott hollow up to Southampton path;" which is the same highway mentioned in the said application.

has been made under our direction, as follows, viz:


Said highway to commence at Sandy Bridge from the highway which runneth westward through Wain- scott street and run through Wainscott hollow north- ward to the highway running between the towns of East Hampton and Southampton. The center of said highway beginning at a point at Sandy Bridge, mark- ed A on the map (from said point A the east door of the mill bears S. 75 degrees W. dist. 2.57 chains), run- ning N. 324 degrees W. dist. 33.43 chains to B on the map, from thence running N. 543 degrees W. dis. 14.60 chains to a point marked C on the map, from thence running N. 563 degrees W. dist. 9.28 chains to a point marked D on the map (from point D on a line with the southeast end of Henry Edwards house dist. 1 chain 62 links to the south corner of said house), from thence running N. 502 degrees W. dist. 8.73 chains to a point marked E on the map, being the termination of said highway, intersecting the highway between the two towns of South and East-Hampton; from said point E the south corner of Jared D. Hedges' house bears N. 233 degrees E. dist. 1.88 chains.


And we do hereby order that the width of said high- way be five rods at A, and from A to B. From B to C narrowing down to four rods and continuing from C to E four rods wide, the same to remain a highway forever.


Given under our hands this 27th day of June, 1863.

Whereas a certain road or highway in the Town of East-Hampton leading from the country road at the south end of the village towards Georgica has been used as a highway for the last forty years, and con- stantly used and worked for the last six years by the Overseers of the Highways, but not recorded, now, therefore, we, the Commissioners of Highways of said Town of East-Hampton, all of said Commissioners having been notified to attend and deliberate upon the subject of this order, having heard the proofs and allegations of said witnesses and having examined the facts and circumstances of the case,


Do Order, that the said road or highway shall be ascertained, described and entered of record in the Town Clerk's office, according to a survey which they have caused to be made of the same, be as follows, viz, to wit: The center line of said highway to com- irence at a point marked A on the map, from said point A to the east corner of Edmund Tillinghast's dwelling house bears S. 46 degrees E. dist. 3 chains, from thence bearing S. 44 degrees W. dist. 4.40 chains to a point marked B on the map, from thence S. 30 degrees W. dist. 24.91 chains to a point marked C on the map, from thence bearing S. 42 degrees W. dist. 1.32 chains to a point marked D on the map, from thence bearing S. 58 degress W. dist. 16.37 chains to a point marked E on the map, from thence bearing S. 73 degrees W. dist. 16.12 chains to a point marked F
