Do Order, that said road be ascertained, described and entered of record in the Town Clerk's office, ac- cording to a survey which has been made under our direction, as follows: Beginning at a stone upon the Fire Place highway, from which stone (1 on map) the east corner of the blacksmith's shop of William H. Parsons bears (magnetic meridian, variation 9 deg. W.) S. 552 deg. W. 40 links distant, and a black wal- nut tree upon or near the corner of Samuel D. Miller's land bears N. 30 deg. E. 47 links distant, and running thence N. 494 deg. W. 10.18 ch. to a certain stone (2 on map) at or near the gate of the fence of said Sam- uel L. Griffing's land.
And we do further order that the line of said sur- vey (black line on map) shall be the centre of said highway, and that said highway shall be of the width of three rods throughout its entire length, from 1 to 2. near the gate.

At the annual Town Meeting for the election of Town Officers of the Town of East-Hampton, held at Clinton Academy, upon the first day of April, 1884, George A. Miller, Esq., was called to the Chair, and Joseph S. Osborne, Town Clerk, acted as Clerk.
The annual report of the Supervisor was read and accepted.
Resolved, That the sum of seven hundred dollars be raised by tax, for the Contingent Fund of the Su- pervisor, for the coming year. Voted by ballot.
Resolved, That the Supervisor be and is hereby au- thorized to borrow upon his note as Supervisor, the sum of One Hundred and Ffty Dollars, to pay the ex- isting indebtedness of the Contingent Account, and that the same be inserted in the tax levy of the com- ing year.
The annual account of the Overseers of the Poor was read and accepted.
Resolved, That the sum of Two Thousand dollars be raised by tax, for the use of the Overseers of the Poor, for the support of the poor the coming year. Voted by ballot.

Resolved, That the sum of ninety-five 70-100 dol- lars now in the hands of the Supervisor, upon the Dog Fund account, which has remained in his hands one year, be paid to the Overseers of the Poor, to- ward the liquidation of their present indebtedness.
Resolved, That the sum of One Hundred dollars be raised by tax to pay the balance of the deficiency of the account of the Overseers of the Poor, and that they are hereby authorized to borrow the said amount upon their note as Overseers.
The annual report of the Commissioners of High- ways was read and accepted.
Resolved, That the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars be raised by tax for the use of the Commis- sioners of Highways, for the contingent expenses of the coming year.
The report of the Committee on Records was read and approved.
Resolved, That the sum of four hundred and fifty dollars be raised by tax, to be applied to the prep- aration and publication of the Records of the Town, to be paid by the Collector to the Supervisor for said purpose, and that the Committee, consisting of Jona- than Baker, Joseph S. Osborne and Jonathan T. Gar- diner, be continued, to prosecute the work to com- pletion.
The report of the Clerk of the Town Trustees upon the 'Rysam Fund " was read and accepted.
The report of the Clerk of the Town Trustees, of the receipts and disbursements by said Trustees for the two years last past, was read, whereupon the meeting voted that the report be rejected.

Whereas it appears by the records of the Town of East-Hampton, that in the year 1695, it was agreed by the proper authorities of the Towns of East-Hamp- ton and Southampton, acting jointly, that there should be an highway one rod in width on each side of the line, between the said Towns through its whole length from a certain stake, at the south end near the ocean, to a certain pine tree on the north side of the Island.
And, whereas, by an instrument under their hands bearing date the 9th day of November, 1863, the then Commissioners of Highways of said Towns did order that all that part of said highway extending from the ocean to the country road be ascertained, described

and entered of record in their respective Town Clerk's offices. according to a survey, etc.
And, whereas said survey is missing from the office of East-Hampton, some of the monuments referred to have been removed, and in general the outside boun- daries of said highway were not sufficiently marked by permanent and suitable monuments. Now, there. fore, we, the Commissioners of Highways of said Towns, having met at the house of Herman Strong. all of said Commissioners having been duly notified to attend and deliberate upon the subject of this order, Do Order, that, that part of said highway between the two Towns embraced in the order of Nov. 9, 1863, be ascertained, described and entered of record in the Clerk's office of both of said Towns, according to a re; survey which we have caused to be made of the same, as follows, to wit: Commencing at the ocean at high- water mark, and (the red line on the map, and the centre line of the highway) running N. 35} deg. W. over the south beach to a stake (A on the map) which stands opposite to the south ends of the improved up- lands; then on the same course 25 ch. along the form- er line of an ancient ditch to a stake (2 on the map) nearly opposite to the south line of "Davis Lane " highway, from which the southwest corner of Herman Strong's house bears N. 473 deg. E. dist. 1.052 ch .; then on the same course 15.33 ch. to a stake (B on the map) in the centre of the lane opposite to the south end of the old bars of land formerly of Henry Hedges. The whole length of the line A B being 40.33 ch. Then N. 30} deg. W. 9.60 ch. to a point opposite to the south line of the Wainscott road and on the same course 7.68 ch. to a point opposite to the north line of Hedges' lane highway, and then on the same course

27.62 ch. to a stake (C on the map) from which the northeast corner of Andrew Strong's house bears S. 2 deg. E. dist. 2.12 ch. The whole length of the line B O being 44.90 ch. Then N. 26 deg. W. 17.55 ch. to a stake (D on the map); then N. 30} deg. W. 16.43 ch. to a stake (E; on the map); then N. 324 deg. W. 6.22 ch. to a stake (F on the map), and then N. 32 deg. W. 6.98 ch. to a stone said to occupy the former place of a white-oak tree, which stone is one rod from the corner of the land formerly of Levi Hedges, deceased, and marks an angle in the boundaries of the Towns of East and Southhampton (G on the map), which said survey follows the line between the Towns aforesaid.
And we do further order that the line of said survey be the centre of said road, and that said road be of the width of two rods, as originally laid out, and now marked by a granite stone or post at each outside an- gle of the stations A, B, C, D, E and F, and by a single stone or post on the east side of the terminus G, the same to remain a highway forever.

At a meeting of the Commissioners of Highways of the Town of East-Hampton, in the County of Suffolk, State of New-York, held at the house of Joseph S. Os- borne, in said Town on the 25th day of June, 1885, all the Commissioners having met and deliberated upon the subject matter of this order, upon the application of Daniel B. Conklin and Samuel S. Conklin, residents in said Town and liable to be assessed to work on highways therein, for the laying out or alteration of the highway hereafter to be described, and on the cer- tificate of ten reputable freeholders of said Town con- vened and duly sworn after due publie notice, as re- quired by the statute, certifying that such highway and alteration thereto is necessary and proper; and such other proceedings having been had on applica- tion duly made, that a certificate made by the Com- missioners of Highways of the Town of East-Hamp- ton, on Oct 7th, 1884, that the public interest would be greatly promoted by the laying out and opening of said road through the yard and enclosure of Catharine A. Hedges in which her dwelling house stands and also through a portion of her orchard, and other im- proved property, and through the yard or enclosure and the dwelling house and the garden, orchard and small one-story dwelling or tenement house of David G. Mulford, and also other of his enclosed and culti- vated lands, and through the enclosed and cultivated lands of other persons as by said certificate duly filed in the office of the Town Clerk of the Town of East- Hampton will more fully and at large appear; which said certificate and decision of said Commissioners was, on notice to all the owners and occupants of said

lands, duly affirmed by the order of the County Judge of Suffolk County, made on the 30th day of January, 1885, and duly filed in the office of the County Clerk of Suffolk County, and of the Town Clerk of East- Hampton, and which said order was duly confirmed on notice by the General Term of the Supreme Court of the 2nd Judicial Department (that being the de- partment in which said premises are situated) by an order made May 11th, 1885, and duly entered in the Clerk's office of Suffolk County on the 10th day of June, 1885, as will more fully and at large appear by said several orders, certified copies of which are here- to annexed and made part hereof. And Notice in writing of at least three days having been given in due form of law to Aaron S. Conklin, Samuel S. Conklin, Hiram L. Sherrill, John Flannery, Charles B. Dayton, J. C. Hedges (heirs), Catherine A. Hedges, Daniel B. Conklin, Charles B. Conklin, Edmund S. Conklin, Annie M. C. Homan, William L. Baker, Charles R. Dayton and David G. Mulford, owners and occupants of lands through which such highway is to run, and such alteration is to be made, that the undersigned Commissioners would meet at this time and place to decide on the application aforesaid. And we having heard all reasons offered for or against the laying out and alteration of said highway, It is ordered and cer- tified that a public highway shall be and the same is hereby laid out pursuant to said application, whereof a survey has been made and is as follows: Beginning at a stone (marked 1 on map) upon the Main Street of the Village of East-Hampton, from which stone the most southern corner of the house of Catherine A. Hedges bears (magnetic meridian) variation 9 deg. W.
