At the annual Town Meeting of the Town of East- Hampton, held at Clinton Academy, April 5th, 1881, H. B. Tuthill, Esq., was chosen Chairman, and Jo- seph S. Osborne, Town Clerk, acted as clerk.
The annual report of the Supervisor was read and accepted.
Resolved, That the Supervisor of the Town be and hereby is authorized to borrow on his note as Super- visor, the sum of two hundred and ninety-four 61-100 dollars to pay existing deficiency of contingent fund.
Resolved, That the sum of six hundred dollars be raised by tax to defray the expenses of the contin- gent fund for the ensuing year.
The report of the Commissioners of Highways was read and accepted.
Resolved, That the sum of one hundred dollars be, and is hereby appropriated to pay an outstanding note of the Commissioners of Highways.
The report of the Overseers of the Poor was read and accepted.
Resolved, That the Overseers of the Poor be au- thorized to borrow upon their note, the sum of five hundred and ninety-four 13-100 dollars, to pay in- debtedness of their account.
Resolved, That the sum of two thousand dollars be raised for the support of the poor for the current year.

Whereas, application has been made in due form of law to the Commissioners of Highways of the Town of East-Hampton, that they would lay out and define a new road or highway leading from a point near the north corner of the homestead of D. E. Tal- mage, in the village of Wainscott, toward the ocean, the owners of the land through which such road passes, having released all claims for damages,
Now, therefore, we, the Commissioners of High- way of said town, all of said commissioners having been duly notified to attend and deliberate upon the subject of this order,
Do Order, that said highway be ascertained, de- scribed and entered of record in the office of the Town Clerk, according to a survey which has been made under our direction, as follows: Beginning at a point upon the south line of Wainscott street, from which point (1 on map) the south corner of C. C. Conkling's house bears (magnetic meridian) N. 234 deg. W. 1.28 ch. distant, and the east corner of the same house bears N. } deg. W. 1.37 ch. distant, and running thence S. 214 deg. E. 56.19 ch. to stone (2 on map); thence, same course to the ocean.
And we do further order that the line of this sur- vey (black on map) shall be the centre of this high- way and that this highway shall be of a uniform width of three rods throughout its entire length.

Discontinuance of Highway at Wainscott.
At a meeting of the Commissioners of Highways of the Town of East-Hampton, in the County of Suf- folk, at East-Hampton in said Town, on the fifth day day of September, 1881, all the Commissioners hav. ing met and deliberated on the subject of this order, upon the application of C. C. Conkling, D. Egbert Tal- mage, Jacob O. Hopping, J. Clarence Hand, David P. Osborne, James L. Osborne, Adelaide C. Hedges and Miranda Osborne and Bell Osborne (the last three named, heirs of Chauncey Osborne), J. M. Os- borne, James H. Topping. Herman S. Strong, John H. Hand, John D. Edwards, Abner Strong, George Hedges, B. Shaffer Osborne, and J. B. Hopping, of said Town, and William H. S. Wood, A. S. Griffiths, John Strong and Charles O. Hedges, all of whom are liable to be assessed for highway labor in said Town, for the discontinuance of the road hereinafter de- scribed, and on the certificate of twelve disinterest- ed freeholders, duly summoned and sworn, who have in due form certified that said road is useless and unnecessary, and the said Commissioners having caused a survey of said road to be made as follows, viz: Beginning at a stake situated on a course S. 25 deg. 25 min. E. 8.77 chains distant from station F, of record of October 5th, 1877; said stake (No. 1) is 37} links from the east corner of land of Nathan O. Hedges and in the centre of the "Georgica Lane " or highway, and bears from said corner N. 64} deg. E., and running thence S. 25 deg. 25 min. E. 6.82 ch. to station 2; thence S. 29 deg. E. 3.93 ch. to station 3; thence S. 29 deg. 30 min. E. 3.00 ch. to station 4;

thence S. 23 deg. 30 min. E. 4.54 ch. to the east corner of land of Oliver S. Osborn, and from thence through land of W. H. S. Wood 37.85 chains to the beach (highwater mark). The width of aforesaid road, as recorded, is three rods from place of beginning to station 3, then uniformly narrowing to two rods in width at a point one chain from station 3, and so continuing two rods to the shore.
It is ordered and determined by the said Commis- sioners, that the same road be and the same is here- by discontinued. Beginning at the stake situated on a course S. 25 deg. 25 min. E. 8.77 chains distant from station F, of record, and running thence south- erly to the beach (high water mark) according to the courses and distances mentioned and described in the survey hereinbefore set forth.
In witness whereof we have hereto set our hands this fifth day of September, 1881.

It is hereby ordered and determined by the Com- missioners of Highways of the Town of East-Hamp- ton, all of said Commissioners having been duly no- tified to attend and deliberate upon the subject of this order, that the eastern end of Amagansett street or highway be extended and altered so as to conform to a survey which they have cause to be made of the same, as follows, to wit:
The west line of the alteration beginning at a gran- ite stone placed in the line of fence of Marcus B. Hand, at an angle in the west line of the street, as ascertained and recorded June 26th, 1857 (A on the map), and running thence N. 42} deg. E. 4.81 chains to and across the south end of the Deep Lane high- way to a stake in the line of fence of Marcus B. Hand (B on the map), and the west line of the alteration beginning at a granite stone opposite to the prem- ises of Leffert R. Cornell, which marks an angle in the east line of the street as ascertained and record- ed on said 26th day of June, 1857 (C on the map), and running thence N. 72 deg. E. 2.62 chains to a stake (D on the map) at the west end of the south line of the highway to the beach, sometimes called Willow Street; then N. 52 deg. E. 1.74 chains across the west end of said street to a granite stone (E on the map) near or at the south end of the west line of the high- way leading towards Abraham's Landing and at the south corner of land of Marcus B. Hand, which last mentioned stone bears from the flag-staff as it now stands S. 68 deg. E. distant 2.48 chains, and also bears from the west corner of the new school house N. 58 deg. Whereas a certain portion of road, turning out from the road that leads from East-Hampton Street toward Amagansett, at a point near the east corner of land of Harriet Rackett, and leading toward the Egypt Lane highway, westerly of the Pound, has been used as a public highway for twenty years and has not been recorded,
Now, Therefore, we, the Commissioners of Highways of said Town of East-Hampton, all of said Commis- sioners, having been duly notified to attend and delib- erate upon the subject of this order, Do Order, that said road be ascertained, described and entered of record in the Town Clerk's office according to a sur- vey which has been made under our direction, as fol- lows: Beginning at a stake (No. 1) near the aforesaid corner of land of Harriet Rackett, from which stake

From No. 3 the northwest corner of C. J. Hudson's house bears S. 244 deg. W. And we do further order that the line of this survey (black on map) be the centre of said highway, and that said highway shall be of the width of three rods through its entire length.

Now, therefore, we, the Commissioners of Highways of the Town of East-Hampton, all of said Commission- ers having been duly notified to attend and deliberate upon the subject of this order;
Do Order, that the eastern line of the highway shall be altered so as to conform to a survey which we have caused to be made, as follows: Beginning at a point (A on map) at the western corner of the chapel lot, from which point (A) the north corner of the school house bears (magentic meridian) variation 9 deg. W. S. 553 deg. W. 1.26 ch., and the east corner of Venus E. King's house bears N. 33 deg. W. 3.03 ch. dist., and running thence N. 13 deg. W. 2.28 ch. to stone opposite station 18 of Fire Place highway, and also running from A S. 223 deg. E. 1.07 ch. to corner of the cemetery lot. And we do further order that the portion of highway, heretofore recorded, which lies easterly of aforesaid line, be, and the same is hereby discon- tinued.

Griffing and others, who are liable to be assessed for highway labor in said Town, for the dis- continuance of the road hereinafter described, and the said Commissioners having caused a survey of said road to be made, as follows, viz: Beginning at a stake opposite the west corner of the homestead of Samuel D. Miller, and two rods distant therefrom, in the cen- tre of the highway, and running thence (magnetic meridan, variation 9 deg. W.), N. 50 deg. 35 min. W. 10.00 ch. to No. 2, from which the north corner of Sam- uel L. Griffing's house bears S. 5 deg. E. 2.37 ch .; thence N. 50 deg. 45 min. W. 10.00 ch. to No. 3; thence N. 51 deg. 30 min. W. 7.68 ch. to No. 4, it being a stone near the west bar-post of S. L. Griffing's enclosure. The width of said road, which runs throughout its entire length, through land of said S. L. Griffing, is four rods from place of beginning to station No. 4.
It is ordered and determined by said Commission- ers that said road, as above described, be, and the same is hereby discontinued, according to the courses and distances mentioned in the survey hereinbefore set forth.

The annual account of the Overseers of the Poor was called for, read, and accepted.
Resolved, That the sum of eleven hundred dollars be raised by tax to pay the existing deficiency of the accounts of the Overseers of the Poor.
Resolved, That the sum of two thousand dollars be raised by tax, for the use of the Overseers of the Poor, for the support of the poor the coming year.
Resolved, That the Overseers of the Poor be, and they are hereby authorized to borrow upon their note as Overseers, the sum of eleven hundred dollars, to pay the existing indebtedness, principal and inter- est.

dollars be raised by tax for the use of the Commis- sioners of Highways for the contingent expenses of the coming year.
Resolved, That the Supervisor be and is hereby au- thorized and instructed to pay to the Commissioners of Highways, from the Dog Fund account, the sum of one hundred and six 25-100 dollars, the same hav- ing remained on hand for one year, to be applied by the Commissioners of Highways toward liquidating their present indebtedness.
Resolved, That the sum of three hundred dollars of the fund now in possession of the Trustees, be, and is hereby voted into the hands of the Supervisor, for the purpose of publishing the Town Records; and that the Supervisor, Joseph S. Osborne and Jonathan T. Gardiner, be and are hereby appointed a committee to prepare and publish the same.
