Beginning at a stone upon the highway as recorded December 2, 1889, from which stone the southwest corner of the barn of Charles W. Edwards bears (mag- netic meridian, variation 9 deg. W.), N. 84 deg. 40 min. E. 4.28 chains distant, and the south corner of the house of Selah S. Lester bears N. 23 deg. W. 3.21 chains distant, and running thence N. 162 deg. E. 10.82 chains to a point opposite to and 62} links from the northerly corner of the lot formerly of Henry Os- borne, deceased; thence N. 10 deg. 40 min. E. 19.62 chains to stone; thence N. 22 deg. E. 6.90 chains to a point opposite the east corner of the Ten Pole high- way and the cross road from Springs highway which is identical with station E of record of December 2, 1889.


And we do further order that the line of survey shall be the center line of said highway and that said highway shall be of the width of five rods through- out the whole distance of this survey and that all por- tions of the present highway not included in the fore- going description be and the same are hereby discon- tnued.

At the annual Town Meeting of the Town of East- Hampton, for the election of town officers, held at Clinton Hall in said Town on the 7th day of April, 1896, Theodore D. Dimon, Esq., was chosen Chairman, and Joseph S. Osborne, Town Clerk, acted as Clerk, assisted by Hiram Sherrill.


Dewitt C. Talmage and Edward M. Gay were chosen ballot clerks, and all clerks and inspectors were duly sworn.


Rev. John D. Stokes was present and was invited by the chairman to open the meeting with prayer, which was done.


The polls of the election were declared open at 12 o'clock M. and it was voted and announced that they would close at five o'clock P. M.


A ballot vote was taken as advertized to raise by tax the sum of Twelve hundred dollars for contingent expenses for the support of the Poor during the com- ing year which was carried affirmatively.


Resolved, That there be raised by assessment on the taxable property of this Town the sum of Fire hundred dollars for contingent expenses.


Resolved, That the Supervisor be and hereby is au- thorized to transfer One hundred dollars from the Dog Tax Fund, to the Contingent account, to pay bills audited against the town.


Resolved, That the sum of Five hundred dollars be raised by tax and that the same be inserted in next tax levy of the Town of East-Hampton, for the use of the Town Trustees, said money to be used by the Trustees to pay bills or expenses that have been or may hereafter be contracted in protecting or defend-

Resolved, that the Overseers of the Poor be and are hereby authorized to hire upon their note as Over- seers, the sum of Four hundred and eighty-three and 65-100 dollars to pay the existing deficiency as per statement of Town Auditors, and that the said sum be inserted in the next annual tax levy of the Town of East-Hampton.


Resolved, that the Town Board in hereby directed and authorized to have printed in the East-Hampton Star, in the issue next following each auditing day, an itemized account of the receipts and expenditures of each and every officer or set of officers of the Town for the year just closed.


Resolved, that in pursuance of section 193 and 194 of the "Town Law," Jonathan T. Gardiner, Samuel C. Hedges and Jeremiah H. Mulford be and hereby are chosen to act as a Board of Trustees of the burial ground known as the "Southend burying ground;" that Frank S. Stratton, Abram E. Hedges and Wm. B. Hedges, in said Town, on the fourteenth day of April, 1897, all of said Commissioners having been duly no- tified to attend and deliberate upon the subject of this order for the alteration of a portion of the high- way north of the East Bridge in the Hook, and a dis- continuance of the same which may be outside of the lines herein described,


It is hereby ordered, determined and certified that a public highway shall be and the same is hereby altered and the record thereof amended as follows:


Beginning at a stone, which is 1.64 chains distant from the easterly corner of the house of Charles D. Hedges and 86} links distant from the southerly cor- ner of the tenement of William A. Hedges and run- ning S. 49¿ deg. W. 2.36 chains to a stone opposite the north end of the eastern wall of stone supporting said bridge and 37} links distant from said stone wall, the alteration along this course to be only on the easterly side of said course.


Again beginning at first named stone and running thence N. 643 deg. E. 11.56 chains to a point opposite land of Isaac M. Fithian; thence N. 60 deg E. . 98 ch. to a stone which is identical with station B of survey of March 27, 1877.


And we do further order that the line of survey running northeasterly from station No. 1 of this sur- vey shall be the center line of this survey as altered and amended, and that the width of the highway shall be three rods throughout this alteration, and that all portions of the highway as heretofore record- ed as far as this alteration extends, not included in the foregoing description, be and the same are hereby discontinued.

At a meeting of the Commissioners of Highways of the Town of East-Hampton, held on the twenty- fifth day of June, 1897, the following preamble and order were adopted:


Whereas, Wm. O. Rackett did present to us, as Com- missioners of Highways of the Town of East-Hamp- ton, in the County of Suffolk, a written application dated the 19th day of November, 1896, to lay out a highway in said Town, and,


Whereas, Commissioners were appointed by the County Court of said County pursuant to Section 84 of the Highway Law, and after having duly met, cer- tified that such proposed highway was necessary and proper and should be laid out and opened and assess- ed the damages therefor, and,


Whereas, said Court has confirmed the decision of said Commissioners, and said application, orders and certificate have been duly filed in the office of the

Town Clerk of said Town, to which reference is here 2 made;


Now, therefore, we, the undersigned, Commission- er's of Highways of said Town, pursuant to Section 98 of the Highway Law, do hereby lay out such high- way as so applied for and ordered, whereof a survey has been made as follows:


Beginning at a point upon the east line of the Main street of East-Hampton Village, at a stone, from which the north corner of the house of Charles E. C. Homan bears (magnetic meridian) S. S deg. E. 87 feet distant, and running thence about S. 64 deg. E. 3031 feet to a point upon the Hommack; thence S. 752 deg. E. 1000 feet to the west line of the highway which runs along back of Hook Pond.


And the line of such survey shall be the center of the highway, which is to be fifty feet in width.

Strong; the land hereby released being of no width at either end, and gradually widening from each end to the center, where the width of land released is 13 links.

Resolved, That the sum of Four hundred and twen- ty-one dollars and sixteen cents be raised by tax to pay existing deficiency of Highway Commissioners, and that they be and hereby are authorized to hire upon their note as Commissioners, above named sum.


Resolved, That there be raised by tax during the present year, for the use of the Highway Commis- sioners of the Town, for the improvement and repair of highways in the Town, the sum of Five hundred dollars, said sum to be equally divided among the sev- eral districts of the Town, according to the assess- ment of each district.


Resolved, That One hundred dollars of the Dog Tax money now in the Supervisor's hands be and said sum hereby is appropriated to highway district No. 2, to be expended in loaming and otherwise improving the sandy roads in that district leading to East-Hampton and Amagansett.


Resolved, That the Town Board shall have an item- ized account of the receipts and disbursements of the several Boards of the Town during the coming year, printed in pamphlet form for distribution, and that the resolution concerning the printing of bills adopt- ed at last annual Town Meeting be hereby repealed.

on application, permission was granted to W. F. Much- more, Joseph S. Osborne, George A. Eldridge, B. H. Van Scoy, Jonathan T. Gardiner, John J. Bartlett and Adrian H. Larkin and those who may become associated with them for the formation of a corpora- tion for the purpose of supplying the Town of East- Hampton or a portion thereof with "water," under the provisions of the "Transportation Corporation Law " and amendments thereto.


The permission was granted by a unanimous vote of the Boards.
