Livingston, in N. J., and studied there; entered Shurtleff Coll., Ill., upon his father's return and appt'd to Jefferson Barracks, Mo .; subse- quently studied at John Sedgwick's Sch., N. Y. City, and after reading law, admitted to practice, Nov., 1860; entered law dep't Univ. of N. Y., and grad., 1863; m. 1863, Mary A., d. Linus W. Stevens (well known N. Y. merchant and first col. of 7th Reg't); one d. (m. Robert M. Tarleton). Engaged in gen. practice of law, 1863, and became Identified with important liti- gations, especially in Federal Courts, 1889, having earned a fortune, and finding his health impaired by overwork, went abroad for some time, and upon re- turn retired from active practice. In 1892 founded banking house of Redmond, Kerr & Co., and later present banking house of Plympton, Gardiner & Co .: dir. in several corp'ns. Has been a frequent contb'r to periodicals, and author of several pamphlets, among them a monograph upon the life of father and a sketch of Plympton family. Mem.
