As soon as wounds permitted was sent to Martinsburg, to command 1st Brigade, 3d Div., Dept. of W. Va., then operating in the Shenandoah Valley, and for short time, after cap- ture of Gen. Crook, was in conimand of same div. at Harper's Ferry. Resigned at end of war and resumed position at head of banking house of W. H. Seward & Co., in which has since continued. Established at Auburn, at his own expense, Free Reading Rooms for Workmen, which has become a popular inst'n.
