Orders sent to Brigr Gen' Silliman to cause a sufficient number of cart- ridges immediately to be made up and put into boxes and mark the boxes with the size of the balls in each box and deposite them in some safe place to be used at discretion : the cartridges to be made with the publick powder and ball in his hands; also to order the several regiments in his brigade to. stand equipped and in readiness to march at the shortest notice in such detachments as the exigency may require in case of an attack or approach of the enemy up the North River or in his neighborhood, at his discretion.

Received a letter from Colo. Jon" Fitch, touching purchasing provisions for Colo. Enos's regiment. Returned an answer to send a person to the northward to purchase, per Sam" Thacher.
Capt. Wm. Coit, late commander of the ship Oliver Cromwel, having applyed to this Board for settlement of the ship's accounts while under his command, and failed by reason of some impediments hitherto intervening: It is thereto agreed with said Coit, and by this Board voted and resolved, that Capt Nath1 Backus, Jabez Perkins and William Hubbard, all of Nor- wich, be and they are hereby appointed a committee with full power to receive, examine and adjust said Coit's accounts against said ship until a final settlement had, as well as his reasonable account of all provisions, uten- sils and stores of every kind, procured and delivered to his care whilst in command; as also the accounts that may be exhibited in behalf of the State, including every matter, whether disputed or not, that may be layed before said committee, who have full power hereby committed to them to hear and determine the same at such time and place as they shall appoint and make and deliver their result in the premises to this Board, which shall be binding and conclusive as well on the part of the State as on the part of said Coit, who also acknowledges his accession to the terms of this appointment and agrees in the fullest sense thereof.

Mr. Wm. Hillhouse exhibited an account of monies paid the committee for apprizing the land at Groton Fort, for his time and expence, amounting to the sum of four pounds six shillings and nine pence, which is accepted and approved: Thereupon voted, that an order be drawn in favour of said Hillhouse on the Pay-Table for said sum.

On the memorial of Michal Judah of Norwalk, shewing that two hogs- heads and one tierce of brown sugar belonging to him on board a boat in the harbour of Milford, which he was transporting from Rocky Hill to Nor- walk for the use of the inhabitants of said Norwalk, was seized by virtue of a warrant dated the 13th day of June, 1777, signed by his Excellency the Governor: Voted and resolved, that the said Mical Juday be permitted to proceed to Norwalk with his sugars, the aforesaid seizure notwithstanding.

Sent a letter to Capt. Cockrum of Saybrook to purchase flour and meat in the best manner he can, and to apply to the Committee of Pay-Table for money.
Sent a letter to Gen1 Silliman in answer to his of the 3ª instant, approv- ing the measures he had taken touching the marching of the militia, and advising him of the orders of this day to Colo. Enos.
Voted, That Brig' Gen1 Silliman be directed to procure an exchange of some of our prisoners who were taken at Middlesex in March last for some of the enemy's prisoners taken in the expedition to Danbury, and that he permit Jane Mape, a single woman, a miliner of New York, to pass to New York on her parole and to return when thereto required by the Commander in Chief. On consideration of intelligence received from Brigr Gen1 Silliman since my last orders to you dated the 5th instant, I have thought fit by advice of Council to alter those orders, and you are hereby directed to order Capt. Edward Rogers and Capt Reuben Scofield to collect and march the compa- nies under their command to the town of Greenwich; Capt. Abraham Brad- ley to collect and march his company to the town of Stamford; Capt. Reu- ben Bostwick to collect and march his company to the town of Milford, and Capt. Stephen Thorp to collect and march his company to the town of Fair- field. The other three, viz: the companies commanded by Captains Abel Pettibone, James Peck and Peter Curtiss, you'l order to be collected and marched to New Haven, leaving those marched in consequence of my first order to remain in service according to the direction then given 'till further orders. Where any company is not full you'l order a recruiting officer to be left to inlist men until the 15th of this instant. You will then make a return of your regiment to me with every circumstance attending it. I am informed that the men that were on duty at the time of inlisting left their duty by leave from their officer 'til the 15th July, which was rather weakening than strengthening our defence. All ought to remain in or go on duty as soon as directed. You'l direct your Lieutenant Colonel and Major to repair to such post or town where the men are ordered, to take the command in your absence. The men are to be employed according to such orders as have been given, and to guard and defend the places where they are. Both you and they will obey such orders as you may receive from any general

Directions sent to Capt. Niles in answer to his letter of the 3ª instant touching some prisoners, viz : To send Alex' Clerk to the care of Gen. Silli- man ; Ephraim Betts and Joseph Waterbury to Hartford goal; John Curry and John Casey to remain on board the Spy untill her return to New London, then said Curry to be delivered to Mr. Shaw and said Casy to remain on board untill his circumstances be further known. This Board do appoint Mr. Christopher Woolcot to be Surgeon and Physician of a regiment ordered to be raised in this State for the defence of the sea-coasts commanded By Roger Enos, Esq', colonel.
Upon the representation of Mr. Robert Rice of Wallingford, shewing to this Board that he is drafted and ordered to joyn the continental army, and that by lameness in his feet, which has been of some years continuance, he is unable to perform the duty of a soldier : Voted and resolved, that the said Robert Rice be dismissed from such draft for said service in the battalions raised by this State for the continental army.
Acors Sheffield having exhibited an account of wages due to a number of matrosses who served at Stonington in December and January last: Voted and resolved, that the Committee of Pay-Table examine and adjust said account and give order for the payment of what shall be due thereon.
Simeon Hiscox having exhibited an account for provisions supplyed the militia companies and troops posted at Stonington to the 7th instant : Voted and resolved, that the Committee of Pay-Table examine and adjust said account and draw an order on the Treasurer for such sum as shall be found due thereon.
Voted and resolved, That Joshua Hubart, of Goshen in the State of New York, be permitted to transport by land out of this State twenty-five bushels

Upon the application of the civil authority, selectmen and committee of inspection of Killingworth, representing that Ira Ward of said Killingworth, who is under confinement at Willington as a person dangerous to the United States. has given such assurances of his future good behaviour they are desirous he should be released from said confinement and return to said Killingworth : Voted and resolved by this Board, that the said Ira Ward be released from his present confinement at Willington and be permitted to return to Killingworth, there to remain under the direction of the civil authority, selectmen and committee of inspection in the town of Killingworth.

Whereas Nicholas Brown of Hartford hath lately gone over to the enemy in New York and left his wife Hannah and four children, viz. : one son Nicholas about six years old, and three daughters, Ruth, Hannah and Cinthia : Ruth, the eldest of them, about sixteen years of age : Voted and resolved, that the said Brown's wife and eldest daughter have liberty, if they or either of them choose, to go into New York to the said Nicholas. And they or either of them are to be permitted at their several election and expence to go into said city. And it is recommended to the selectmen of said Hartford to take care of and bind out to some good family and families the other three children.

James Wigings master. Salt to be brought in return. This grant in lieu of a former vote of this Board upon the subject.
Sent per Thomas Loomis one hhd. sugar, contents 12c. 1q. 217b., one hhd. N. England rum, contents 117 gallons; and per Joseph Loomis three hogsheads of cloathing, containing one thousand shirts, seven hundred and sixty eight hose, to be delivered to Messrs. Elijah Hubbard and Royal Flint at Danbury, or where directed by them, for the use of the Connecticut troops.

Voted, That his Excellency the Governor be and he is hereby desired to indorse to Major Joshua Huntington an order drawn by the Honble John Hancock, Esq", President of the Continental Congress, in favour of Gov" Trumbull, on John Lawrence, Esq', Commissioner of the Continental Loan Office in the State of Connecticut, for twenty thousand dollars, in part pay- ment for the frigate building at Norwich for the United States of America: said Huntington to account for the same in the settlement for building said frigate.
The said order was indorsd by the Gov" and dd to Maj Huntington July 14 , 1777, and his receipt taken.
Voted, To draw on the Pay-Table for the sum of £787 12 64, in favour of Capt. Wm. Coit, late commander of the ship Oliver Cromwell, in full of all his demands on the State of Connecticut on the account of wages of him- self, his officers and men on board said ship, or any other account whatever, agreeable to the determination of Capts. Nath1 Backus, Jabez Perkins and Wm. Hubbard, a committee to whom the settlement of said accounts has been referred.
Received an order for the above sum July 14th, 1777. WILLIAM COIT.
Gave an order to the Pay-Table to allow to Mr. Wm. Wheeler a just reward for riding express from Salisbury to Lebanon and draw on the treasury for the ballance of the same, and to charge the same to the United States. Order dª to Mr. Wm. Wheeler July 14th, 1777.
Mr. Brown, the rider, was sent express to head quarters with letters of importance, which took great part of this day to prepare them.
Resolved, That Mr. David Trumbull be and he is hereby appointed to receive the old fire-arms lately brought here from Albany, and cause the same to be apprized by two indifferent judicious men, and to examine the same and cause all of said arms that shall appear to be worth refitting to be repaired fit for service as soon as may be, at the expence of this State.
