Whereas it is represented to this Assembly that a certain pam- phlet entituled A Discourse upon Extortion is now in the press in Hartford, containing many insulting reflections on civil government, tending to sedition, bloodshed and domestic insurrections, and that the same is expected soon to be published and dispersed among the people, to the great danger of the public peace and the safety of the good people of these United States : It is thereupon resolved by this Assembly, that a precept be immediately issued, directed to the sheriff of the county of Hartford, requiring him to seize the said pamphlet and all the copies thereof and commit the same to the care of the At- torney for this State in the county of Hartford, who is hereby directed carefully to inspect the same and pursue such measures relative thereto as he shall judge to be reasonable and proper.
