ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTEENTH ANNUAL REPORT
than illness, the pupil should present a note of explana- tion from his parents.
The candidates for athletic teams were given a care- ful physical examination before being allowed to take part in competitive sports, and health examinations were given in all the schools as advised by school health authori- ties. No severe or unusual health conditions were found. It was noted that the average condition of teeth has im- proved during the past several years, showing that greater attention has been given to dental care than formerly. In fact, there seems to be an improvement in the health of the pupils generally, due largely to the constant attention given to the health of pupils in all grades by Miss Helen F. Conlon, R.N., the School Nurse. Her assistance in all phases of the school health program is invaluable and is greatly appreciated by pupils, teachers and parents alike.
As in previous years, I have attended all home foot- ball games where, I am glad to report, my services were never required.
Office hours for issuing school certificates:
2:00 to 3:00 and 7:00 to 8:00 on school days

Glazed brick, white mortar and blue roof-tiles do not make a house beautiful; carved rose-wood, gold cloth and clear jade do not furnish a house with grace; a man of cultivated mind makes a house of mud and wattle beautiful; a woman even with a pock-marked face, if refined of heart, fills a house with grace :- From the Chinese (over a doorway in old China.)
